Alright, so I made this spelling mistake on my application essay and am in a lot of stress right now. UW is my top school, and I checked over my essay around 4-5 times, and have had 3 people check it over as well (A UW student, AP LA Teacher, and Guidance Counselor) and apparently we all missed a minor spelling error on the first sentence of my essay. I spelled "through" with a "though." How will the UW view this, I'm killing myself over this, and how I made this mistake. Ruined my break now...
If anyone wants to read the essay overall and critique it anyway even though the deadline has passed to see how this has impacted me, and my chances at UW. Let me know and I'll pm you.

They probably will not care that much, honestly. A ton of people apply to the UW – they do read the essays, but they don’t scrutinize them THAT much. I am sure you are fine – this is not something that will make or break you.

I wouldn’t worry about it! You are going to make yourself sick if you do and I really don’t think it will matter much. Although I am sure spelling is important something like that is easily overlooked. I am sure they are looking more for the content of your essay. You are welcome to send it to me and I will give you my opinion of it.

My friend wanted to see my essay from last year, and I read over it before I sent it to her. I caught 3 mistakes that no one found before I submitted it. I got in.

I wouldn’t stress too much over it.

Thanks everyone for replying back, it means a lot to me. It’s just that I’m so fixated on going to the UW that having a mistake is painful. Anyways, I really hope they would just overlook it and not think that I didn’t “review” my essay or anything.

@tessey64 I sent it to you, let me know on your opinion how the essay is overall and if that mistake will hinder me in any way.

Hi again Raamzic
In regards to your essay, you obviously took a lot of time and thought into it. From what I understand, based upon what I heard the admittance counselor talk about, your essay hits the mark!
Your one spelling error really isn’t a big deal, even if they notice it.
I went back to your old posts to look over your other criteria. Were you able to raise your SAT scores? Did you take the ACT? Your GPA looks great.
I really think you have an excellent chance. From what I understand, essays are very important and yours is excellent!
Just keep a cool head! My son was so stressed last year that he wouldn’t be admitted into U.W. but was and got into Honors as well!
You have a few months time before they admit so just concentrate on your school work and other things until the time comes.

Yes, I did raise my SAT since then, it is a 1910, 1970 superscored (if it mattered), my gpa is 3.85 (unweighted) and my courseload for senior year consists of around 4 AP classes, and 1 additional independent study. Nothing has changed for my EC’s. If you’d like I can send you my short response essay, but I don’t want to weigh you down with unnecessary reading and such. If you don’t mind me asking, what were your sons stats? I got turned away at going for Honors, so I didn’t apply to it. How have your son’s experiences been so far at UW?

I believe your SAT scores are fine based on the high average scores of admitted students last year.

Of course I don’t mind reading your E.C.s! Go ahead and send and I will look over and give my opinion, for what it is worth. :)

Honestly, the people reading your essays skip entire lines- nevertheless a single letter.

I would instantly assume a ‘r’ was there if I read that particular line.

Check your messages :)
