Mistakes in Statement of Purpose

<p>I am wondering can spelling one or two wrong words in SOP hurt chance of getting accepted to graduate school? There might be a mistake about spelling one of my professor's name wrong.</p>

<p>Is it possible that it can hurt your chances? yes, of course.</p>

<p>But I wouldn’t worry about it too much. It’s a minor thing, and if you are otherwise an outstanding applicant that they really want to have, they’re not going to reject you just for spelling a professor’s name wrong.</p>

<p>If you are seeking a degree in engineering then it is probably not a big deal but if your program is English Literature, then oops… A bigger mistake which I see a lot of times is that the applicant sends an SOP with the name of some other university to which he/she has obviously applied. Big OOPS…</p>
