And, for the record, people have said really monumentally stupid things before on CC, things that are linkable to their real-life identities, and it hasn’t been a factor in their admissions decisions. (And by stupid things, I mean nasty things, racist things, mean things, etc.)

In short, the MIT admissions office does not believe in allowing information gleaned from the web without the applicant’s explicit consent to affect admissions decisions.

MITFreak321: you’ll do fine, don’t worry! You seem to have adequate grades and your interest in languages is promising for the world that is to come, so just keep up the good work!

I wonder why it’s taking longer this year, even though there are less applicants for EA this year. Blahhhh I just want them to crush my dreams now so I stop dreaming about going to MIT :(

I don’t think it’s taking any longer technically, it’s just that in the past you haven’t been the one freaking out over decisions. I’m hoping for the release of the date tomorrow, which would be right on par with last year, right? If it’s not tomorrow then we probably won’t get the date until Monday (unless they work seven days a week which, as much as I want my decision now, would be a bit insane).

ahhhh i REALLY hope we find out the date tomorrow. or that it’ll be the same date even if they don’t tell is until monday. i’m guessing we’ll know our fates next thursday or friday. holy moly i’m pooping my pants with anticipation.

So, Cornell, Columbia, Penn etc. released ED decisions this week; Brown, Duke, Dartmouth and a bunch of other schools will notify applicants next week. I think all of these are binding ED, not SCEA. I imagine a healthy number of the 6,100 MIT EA applicants applied to some of these other schools and and a fair number were likely accepted ED by various programs. How quickly do cross-appliers who’ve been admitted to other programs notify the MIT AdCom? Is there a way that MIT checks with these other programs to make certain that it is not admitting someone who is already bound to another program?
Since MIT is apparently notifying applicants after many of the others, will they be able to take a few more top deferrals if spots open up because other applicants withdraw this week or next? Or is it too late and do they just keep everyone who didn’t make the cut initially on deferred status?

Aaaaaaahhhhh. Three more dayyyssss. And then we get to wait even more days! hyperventilates

Does anyone know exactly how many applicants applied for EA this year (as compared to last year) and the estimated acceptance rate? Btw funny comments everyone you all seem like wonderful people and MIT has a great class of them! (hopefully including me as well ;))

I’ve seen other people saying that admissions are slightly down though, which I guess makes sense with Princeton, Yale, and Harvard going to REA
