MIT 2016 hopefuls

GAHH the anxiety is killing me!!
btw, is it easier to get into MIT if you’re a girl?

Well according to the Tech, 6102 people applied early this year, a little less than last year. But we’re still a pretty big group. http://tech.mit.edu/V131/PDF/N55.pdf

I would imagine the acceptance rate for females is higher just because there are less girls applying but the standards are the same. So I guess this would help only if you were a qualified applicant to begin with.

Sent from my MB502 using CC App

Maybe it is higher, but MIT has so few students relatively speaking, and there are so many qualified female applicants, that I don’t think it makes getting in any easier.

I had this fantasy that the announcement comes on Monday, and that the decisions come on Tuesday…if only it would happen like that.

^dude I wish…
I wonder how long it takes between the announcement of the date and the actual decision date…but like you said, I hope it’s only a few days.

In the past I think it’s been as much as a week after the announcement.

Somehow the way it was worded though sounds like it’ll be a pleasant surprise type of thing, though, so maybe it’ll only be a day or two. (My optimistic side speaking here)

Maybe they will just release decisions on Monday  I never really got the point of announcing a decision day… Especially since it seems like they currently already know exactly what will happen on Monday. If it wasn’t some kind of surprise then why wouldn’t they just tell us the notification date now?

++

I’m getting the same sense as you guys are. -crosses fingers-

I can’t see the point in posting the release date if it is more than a week away, so I would say we would get our decisions by next Monday at the latest, assuming that the decision release date is this coming Monday… If it came out before Friday (before winter break) I would be blissfully happy (ok maybe not, you know if rejection comes, but at least I wouldn’t be in suspense) :P

They’ve known that they will be able to release a decision date on Monday, but that doesn’t imply that they already knew what day that was.

No, they won’t admit more students early after finding out who had been admitted to an ED program – those students are predicted in the overall yield for the year. The reason this is true is that there is no list of “top” deferred students, and everyone who is deferred will be wholly re-evaluated during the RD round.

It’s college statuses galore on Facebook and its making it hard for me to keep myself occupied…

After stalking the class of 2015, 2014, and 2013 early action decision threads, I’ve come to one conclusion: If you don’t apply, you can’t get in. With few exceptions, everyone is SO qualified to attend MIT, and so many talented kids will get rejected. Good luck to everyone!

@APchemistry, I agree completely…every time I manage to take my mind off the waiting, someone posts “I GOT IN ___________!” and its back to stress out mode

I keep on having dreams about decisions coming out Monday. Like in 2 days. I am obsessed.

I have a guess about when they’re releasing decisions.
Tuesday between 8 and 9 AM EST.
Why?
Because then we find out about our decisions at the same time the world finds out [if the Higgs Boson exists.](CERN PUBLIC SEMINAR (13 December 2011) · Indico)

dogod11…what? i don’t get it…

uhh no they always release decisions at 9 PM EST

This article does a good job of explaining it:
[Higgs boson to be unveiled (possibly) | Science | The Observer](<a href=“Higgs boson to be unveiled (possibly) | Higgs boson | The Guardian”>Higgs boson to be unveiled (possibly) | Higgs boson | The Guardian)

No, they always HAVE released decisions at 9 PM EST. For RD, they always have released at 1:59, but last year they released at 9:36 instead. They never committed to releasing at 9 PM, it’s just a trend. If they release at a different time, nobody’s going to sue them.

lol I guess…
and what does that article have anything to do with MIT decisions? :O
