MIT 2017 hopefuls

Hey everybody,

So as the obsessive college applicant that I am, I have been looking through posts about MIT for the past couple hours (Don't deny that you've never done the same!) and I came across a post where a lot of applicants for the same class came together and discussed thoughts, where people can improve and the logistics of the application. It seemed to be very helpful (<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/massachusetts-institute-technology/1062429-mit-2016-hopefuls.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/massachusetts-institute-technology/1062429-mit-2016-hopefuls.html</a>) and I thought it would be a smart idea to do the same.

This thread is intended to talk about ideas, fears, problems, solutions, and obsessions with MIT and the application. Please do not use this thread to try steal ideas/troll/be a bad person. Competitive= fine. Cutthroat!= fine (programming humor :P)

If you want, start each new comment with: "Hi, my name is initials and i've been obsessed with MIT since . I'm interested in studying and my favorite superpower is ___"

Hi my name is GH and I've been obsessed with MIT since 2009, when I visited it on my sister's college tour. I'm interested in studying medicine and my favorite superpower is telekinesis.

I'm probs applying EA btw

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE. START YOUR APPLICATION EARLY!

Hi my name is RD, I’ve been obsessed with MIT since 2011 when I stayed overnight with a course 6 undergrad. I’m interested in studying either Course 1 or 6. My favourite superpower is Molecular Manipulation!

I’m applying RD (lol same as my initials) because I’m an international (boo :[ )

I’m applying to:
(in order of preference)

MIT
Cambridge
Stanford
Caltech
Harvard
Imperial College
Carnegie Mellon

thats cool.
I dont have a ranking system, but MIT is definitely first. After that its probably (in no particular order)
Princeton
Williams
Columbia
University of Maryland
WashU

where are you applying from?

Sounds like a solid set of colleges!

I’m applying from the UK, hence my username  . Pretty nervous after the figures showed that 1 in 16 internationals are admitted as opposed to 1 in 5 for domestics, but oh well, I guess I have the same chance of getting in as other internationals :)

What about you? In guessing you’re domestic xD

Hi my name is MK. I’ve been obsessed with MIT since early 2012 when I visited for the first time. I’m interested in studying applied physics and biology. My favourite super power would have to be the ability to fly. Unoriginal, I know. Following with the trend, i’m most likely applying to MIT, CalTech, Harvey Mudd, Stanford, Rice, and Cornell.

Never mind the quality feel the width, raj.

Hi my name is LC and I’ve been obsessed with MIT since 2011. I’m interested in studying chemical engineering and my favorite superpower would be the ability to memorize anything w/o trying. =p lmao, lmao, but yeah.

I’m applying to MIT through questbridge (ranking it first), and if that doesn’t work out (which it probably won’t), my application gets to be put in the EA pool, so it’s all good. =p

@rajoftheuk at least if you are accepted youll feel so awesome. but yea im applying from maryland
@Lesleycolvesyou haha like good will hunting! and thats cool about questbridge it should definitely help you out
i wish MIT had an ED option, because if i get in i would definitely go anyways

Hi, my name is CM and i’ve been obsessed with MIT since freshman year. I’m interested in studying computer science with a minor in mathematics. I am definitely applying early action as MIT is my top choice in school:

MIT
Georgia Tech
University of Florida
Florida Tech
University of Central Florida
Florida Atlantic University

As you can probably tell I’m from Florida, haha. I’m visiting MIT on July 5th next week so if any advisors/current students/other hopefuls see this I’d love to meet and talk with you guys. :)

I have been in marching band/color guard all 4 years of high school and am currently color guard co-captain. I am a member of the computer technology academy at my school, and have been chosen by the academy and school to represent the school in several events including a local political debate over obamacare, a computer workshop at ADT(my mom works there and she works with them and my school to set up programs like this, this particular workshop was for a different high school and my mom got me and 2 other students from my school invited), and one of five on a team for Moody’s Mega Math Challenge(we didn’t place but it was still good experience to participate). I have had straight As my entire life, and my ACT scores are a 35 comp, 36 reading, 35 math, 36 science, 34 english, 9 essay, 32 combined eng/writ. My SAT scores aren’t worth mentioning, but my SAT II is a 800 in Math II and 690 Physics.

Here’s to good luck getting accepted this fall and attending next year!!!

Hi, I’m MM-P, and I’ve been interested in MIT since the spring of 2011 after visiting. My favorite superpower would be teleportation.

I also plan to apply to:
UMass Amherst, Wesleyan, Johns Hopkins, Cornell, Tufts, and others.

What are you guys doing over Summer???

I’m doing research at the Feinstein institute at North Shore LIJ. It’s been pretty fun. Anyone else doing research this summer?

Hi, my name is AT and I’ve been obsessed with MIT since 2010 when an MIT graduate started teaching physics to us. I’m interested in studying Course 6 and my favorite superpower is having the ability to time-travel. As I’m an international student, I’m definitely applying RD this year.

In fact, I’d applied last year as well (in Senior Year) but got rejected. So, I’m applying this year as well. Hope it works this year! :)

As I’m already out of school now, I’m free. Right now I’m giving tuitions to a few guys and working on a few web-design projects (I love web designing by the way :D). Any suggestions for spending my time creatively?

This is late, but yeah, I wish MIT had an ED option too. XD Without a doubt, would I do it. xD

Hi my name is COMBOnatorics and I’ve been interested in MIT since 2010, after visiting and reading online. I’m interested in studying mathematics or chemistry, and my favorite superpower would be the ability to grant myself infinite superpowers, all of which I can choose. The first being the ability to deny the existence of any superpower greater than mine :D

I enjoy math competitions, and I hope to pursue them further in college. I hope to do the same for debate team. Recently, I’ve become more interested in practicing the double bass. In my free time, I greatly enjoy reading up on math, chemistry, and physics, doing problems, walking, biking, and gaming.
My freshman grades were not that good - mostly B’s, but all my other grades have been A/A+. I hope MIT won’t look down on me that much for that. Hopefully I can do some chemistry research this summer. Also, I plan on taking an online real analysis course this summer, and will later take ODE this coming fall.

I’m not completely sure if I’m applying, but I signed up for the WISE program. Did anyone else get this offer? Since I signed up I have not recieved any follow up information, is it just me?

@lobrator I’m doing research at UW, it’s great!

@combinatorics I’m in the same boat. I didnt really develop a work ethic until 10th grade after I discovered my passion. I think if you prove yourself worthy you’ll still have a good chance
For whoever asked what I’m doing this summer- I’m interning at NIH. I start Monday. However right now I have no power so I hope they do too

Hi, my name is Selin and i’ve been obsessed with MIT since 2007. I’m interested in studying bioengineering&political science. I’m an international applicant from Turkey and of course I’ll apply to MIT in RD. So excited!

Hi everyone! My name is ED, and I’ve been interested in MIT since I visited the campus last summer. I’m interested in studying chemical engineering and will most definitely be applying EA.

I’m from Florida, so if I don’t get into MIT, Harvard, or Yale, I’m aiming to go to the University of Florida. A little about me, I’m female, this will be my 4th year on the crew team, I’m also in debate, literary magazine, and quiz bowl, and, like most MIT hopefuls, I enjoy science, video games, and other nerdy things.
