MIT, a party school?

In 1987 MIT was ranked the #25 party school by playboy.

wow that was really unexpected. all of my friends are going to chico...and arizona...

the competition is tougher these days

After Scott Krueger drank himself to death at a frat about 8 years ago MIT has cracked down on parties a lot. But, there are still a lot of fraternity parties at MIT.

how is drinking on campus?

AHAHAHAHAHAHA...no it is not.

The school does an alcohol survey and its results may be somewhere on the website. People tend to be drinking at parties just like at other schools. I don't think people are as ignorant with drinking as at other schools, but some are.

grins
so, there are several schools of thought on this. admittedly, the MIT frat scene (so i hear) is pretty happenin, and it's commonly said that not just wellesley, but harvard and other schools too, come to MIT frats, b/c everyone knows that's where the party's at. but some blame (?) for that rating should also rightfully go to Steer Roast, which (i hear) does keep popping up on lists of top 10 parties of the year in various publications. myself, well, i usually find myself having at least a few choices every friday and saturday night for where to amuse myself, without any effort at all.

as for drinking, i know a lot of people who drink, sometimes heavily. i know a lot who don't. the general aura, at least among my friends, is that it's something that happens, but isn't at all necessary to enjoy yourself. we're rather good at amusing ourselves, sober or otherwise.
