Hey guys,

this is my first post here, so let me introduce myself. I am a student from Germany who is applying for the MIT class of 2012. For this reason I want to ask how you guys assess my chances. My SAT-scores are as following...ok...just kidding. Not another "CHANCES"-thread (we know at MIT it's all about the match ;) )"!!

This is going to be a thread about MIT alumni...sort of. Let's talk about famous and world-renowned MIT alumni. The only catch is...they must not be real and only exist in movies, tv-shows, and video games or even in your own imagination.

Who is the most famous MIT-Alumnus around? Gordon Freeman! He is a brilliant quantum physicist and world savior in one. If you don't know him, reconsider your match with MIT or get a copy of Half-Life 1 + 2. During my overnight visit at MIT I personally experienced that at least in my host's fraternity everyone was well aquainted with the manifold world of video games. I learned that sometimes problem sets are just not as exciting as Halo 3-Tournaments (they linked 4 different XBOX 360s) or Guitar Hero sessions.

Another fictional MIT alumnus I can think of is Kurt Mendel from "Odyssey 5". Never heard of "Odyssey 5"? It's a sci-fi series from Canada, which unfortunately was canceled after just one season. Anyhow, in the series Kurt Mendel is not only a distinguished geneticist but he also happens to save the world from evil aliens (some MIT alumni seem to show a certain aptness in fighting off aliens, preferably using a crowbar). Kurt Mendel is a ladies' man too. A trait of MITlers people have just recently discovered.

Okay, now it's up to you to name some other fictional MIT-alumni (wasn't there some guy on the X-Files?)! Show me some match.

Greetings from Germany
