MIT applicants math abilities SURVEY

well, this is a survey but not exactly math ability

Lets post our AMC/AIME/and USAMO scores and if you are accepted, waitlisted or rejected

Mine is

136/8/didnt make it............waitlisted

112.5 / 2? (this year)
103 / unknown (0 or 1?) last year (reported)

Accepted Early Action

Oh, and I resent the term "abilities." I can do math, really. I just... don't like this math. Especially the AIME.

why limit it to the AIME/AMC etc? Why not just go all out with SAT Math, SAT Math 1C/2C? Maybe even math class grades?

the AMC/AIME/USAMO, although some people dont like to admit it, is perhaps the best gauge of mathematical talent in the United States. No other competition tests your ability to reason creatively in mathematics as thorougly.

I had some pathetic scores in other years, but I'm pretty confident that this year I made USAMO taking the expansion into account

2006
136/9/??..................Accepted RD

I had never seen or heard about AMC12 till this year and took w/o prep, and same with AIME

AMC 12: 115
AIME: 5

i didn't take any of those...
but 800M /770IIC (uggh)

well, this really have NOTHING to do with reflecting ability, i think of that too....
just to make one point, carelessness may change ur score by 3 or 4 points on the aime, which is ALOT.
and list your sat if you want, but just thinking that most applicants score very high on sat math anyways

yeah i mean the difference in math is stupid... i've taken the SAT like 3 times since junior year and my score fluctuate by 70 points!
its stupid like how your stomach feels that day has more to do with ur score than actual ability.

ah..heh....

100.5/3

accepted.

probably shouldn't have included it in my application, but I did, and maybe the stupidity of that was what got me in.

(yeah, thats 0.5 points above the cut-off)

Didn't take AIME, etc., but: SAT 740, SAT II, Math II 770, AP calc BC, 5 (accepted)

AMC 118.5 AIME 7 (I somehow dislike those AMC stuff) USAMTS Silver SAT I 800 SAT IIC 800 Calc BC 5

Mult variable calc, linear algebra, blah blah blah

This thread clearly shows that there is no such thing as "guarantee" score for MIT, although if you are the perfect scorer on AIME, that would be sweet.

Oh, did I say that i got rejected (bam!) as an international?

AMC 111.5 (I think)
AIME (I have no idea what I got)
SAT I 770
SAT IIC 780
ACT 34
AP Calc BC 5
Classes taken at UMBC
Past.
Introduction to Linear Algebra Honors( Sophomore level) (MATH 221H) - A
Introduction to Differential Equations(sophomore level) (MATH 225) - A
Introduction to Mathematical Analysis I(junior level) (MATH 301) - B

Currently
Introduction to Mathematical Analysis II(junior/senior level) (MATH 302)
Introduction to Modern Algebra and Number Theory(senior level) (MATH 407)

Decision: Accepted

mm

AMC 12 (Highest score) - 136.5
AIME (Ditto) - 10
USAMO - Never took. Can't sit that long.
SAT I - 800
SAT IIC - 800
AP Calc BC - 5
Multivariable, Linear Algebra, Diff Eq, Modern Algebra - A

Accepted early. I think there's not too much correlation, although 100 on AMC 12 is a good score, I think, relative to average intelligence, so maybe it IS important somehow?

UMBC? what Maryland county do u live in?

Howard County

hmm sat math 1: 710, sat 2 math 2: 770
accepted!!!

SAT Math - 760
SAT Math IIC - 800
AMC - 101.5 sophomore, 116.5 junior, 132.5 senior
AIME - 3 sophomore, 0 junior, (taking senior tomorrow)

Rejected, oh well.

SAT Math: 680 (I was shocked!)
Math IIC: 680 (again, shocked)
Math IC: 760

Accepted. But I get great grades in math now. Just felt the need to tell you all that because you probably think I'm some stupid ho for having less than 800 on my SAT Math.

SAT I: 800
Math II: 800
Math I: 790

IB Higher level Math: 7/7
IB Further math as an extra certificate (i'm an IB candidate)

Top 10% of Euclid Math contestants

Decision: Rejected !!!!!!!

7 on math hl......

Your amazing!
