MIT Application is out!

We can discuss it here.

I'll write the essay prompts here since MyMIT is slow:

We know you lead a busy life, full of activities, many of which are required of you. Tell us about something you do for the pleasure of it.

Although you may not yet know what you want to major in, which department or program at MIT appeals to you and why?

What attribute of your personality are you most proud of, and how has it impacted your life so far? This could be your creativity, effective leadership, sense of humor, integrity, or anything else you’d like to tell us about.

Describe the world you come from; for example, your family, clubs, school, community, city, or town. How has that world shaped your dreams and aspirations?

Tell us about the most significant challenge you’ve faced or something important that didn’t go according to plan. How did you manage the situation?

BTW, doesn't the 4th prompt seem almost identical to the UC Personal Statement prompt?

we’ve had the 4th prompt for several years now

Can’t see anything in myMIT though, has it opened for Int’l transfers too ? :D

My son will love these essay topics!! Thanks for posting them.

Same ones as least year. Have fun!

^Really? Didn’t they have an essay on creativity?

how long should every short essay be??
do you have any old samples??

@Kings - transfers use a paper app you can download from the paper section of the site.

^^You can’t access the online version of the application?

The first two prompts should be answered in 100 words or fewer, and the other prompts are to be answered in 200-250 words.

I don’t see the 2012 version of the app, all I can see is the 2011 app.
On the website though it says Fall 2012 to be released in early September.

@Ghastn: I’m pretty sure that they’re 250 words maximum. I would avoid looking at any sample essays, to keep from influencing your own writing–to make sure that your essays and the personality they show to admissions are truly your own.

@ Chris
where can I download the forms from ? Link Please. :D

as the website says it will be up in september

could the first prompt be an EC?

^ as in could the “something you do for pleasure” be an EC I list?

^I assume so, if you do it for the pleasure.

it could be i guess

^ Any particular date on which the app will be available for download ?

@MITChris I have submitted the part 1 of my MIT application [(^.^)/], but I noticed that the spelling of environmental engineering and science (in the ‘choice of major’ box) is wrong. I don’t mean to be a pedant, but, it’s just that EES is spelt wrong in my application as well, and I’m not sure if I should worry or not!

^ you should probably worry more about your own spelling. Spelt?
