I know a lot of people pose questions about MIT admissions, I am specifically looking at it for Bioengineering mainly because I am interested in their cancer research facility. Anyway, here is what I am dealing with:

About to receive my B.S. in Biochem (taking a year off to work)
~3.02 GPA
I did a summer internship at a pharma company as a Biologist
Another summer internship at my current school as a Biochemist
And have been doing research the past two years in Tissue Engineering and on the brink of getting my name on two papers (not first, co-authored).

I am going to take the GRE's soon and am pushing to get the research for these papers done before I apply, I guess I am concerned my GPA is too low (I had a difficult time finding out what I wanted to do). My question is would it be beneficial to go for MS first then to PhD...or do I have a shot at getting PhD? Yes I know there are plenty other fish in the sea in terms of schools but I am looking for a top competitive school that excels in my interests. Any help is greatly appreciated!
