MIT, Caltech, RPI, Princeton...

I'm a junior right now at a competitive school in NY. I am a Korean American if that helps. I want to know what my chances are at the top engineering schools as well as some of the ivies. Can you chance me at MIT, Caltech, RPI, Princeton, Cooper Union, Columbia (Fu), Cornell, Harvard, UC-Berkeley, Stanford, and any other schools you recommend. I think that I want to do ChemE, but it is not definite, but I would like to do engineering.

GPA: 3.8 UW
PSAT: 221 (71CR 80M 70W)
SAT: not taken but projected 2250+
Class Rank: n/a, top 10%

SAT II's: Biology - 710
Chemistry - 800
Math IIC - 800
Physics - projected 800

AP's: Chemistry - 5 (self studied sophomore year)
Statistics - 5 (sophomore year)

I am taking Calculus BC and Physics C right now, and my projected scores are both 5's as I have been doing well in both classes.

My grades in math and sciences classes have been A/A+. Spanish grades were A's. English and history grades were both B/B+.

Next year I plan to take multivariable calculus and differential equations and possibly linear algebra. I also plan to take a general chemistry course at Harvard over the summer. I will also take AP Spanish and AP Macroeconomics next year.

EC: LiNK (Liberty in North Korea) - 3 years - President
Math Team - 3 years - top member (captain next year)
International club - 2 years - member
Asian Club - 3 years - member (president next year)
Volunteer at a hospital - 1 year
Honor society at school (I tutor other kids) - 1 year

Other Stuff: AMC 10 participant - freshman year - 119.5
AMC 12 participant - sophomore year - 112.5
AIME participant - sophomore year - 4
Chemistry olympiad - sophomore year - 2nd in school, but not a qualifier for national exam

This year I plan to participate in the AMC 12 and AIME, and possibly USAMO. I will participate in the Chemistry Olympiad again, but this year I have a much better chance at the national exam. And I will be either number 1 or 2 in the county for math team.

Assuming everything above goes according to plan, what are my chances at the schools mentioned above? Thanks in advance for your input.

Well if you achieve your predicted sat result i would say you definitely have your foot in the door. While most schools don't have a cutoff SAT score, you usually need to be in a certain bracket to have realistic shot.

That being said, ec's could probably be stronger in a few areas.
Top colleges get a lot of hospital volunteer, math team, honor society, Asian applicants. While its awesome that you do these things, you're putting yourself in a generic, and thus more competitive pool of applicants. If i were an admissions officer I would be looking for leadership and passion. What do you really love to do (my guess is itit’s not honor society).

Although i don't know much about the aime, amc, etc, my guess is you would have a pretty slim chance at most of the top tier schools you named. Luckily it’s your jr. year and you still have time to show leadership. If you make sure that when you write your essays you convey your passion, then your strong stats will give you a decent shot.

Best of luck!

thanks forax for the input, but can anyone else give me some other opinions, and recommendations for schools that are good for my stats?

JHU and UChicago and Wash U in St. Louis are also on my list of possible schools. can anyone chance me on these too? thanks in advance

for uchicago, you need to make sure your essays are really outstanding. uchicago doesn't have chemical engineering as a major though, so unless you're looking into doing chemistry or math or something there, you should look into a school that has an engineering program.
