MIT Campus | Comparisons

I still don't think I would lump "aesthetics" and "coziness" in together. The two don't necessarily relate -- MIT's campus is very cozy, but there are fewer parts of it that are really beautiful.

Campus tends to feel very lived-in, maybe because it is somewhat small and there are main thoroughfares like the Infinite Corridor which most people travel during the course of a day. There are a lot of benches in most of the main hallways, and people sit and talk on them and drape themselves over them and sometimes nap on them.

I'm definitely a person who likes to sit and take deep breaths and relax for a few moments in the middle of a hectic day, so I know lots of places on the MIT campus where you can do just that.

My favorites:
1. The 24-hour reading room in Hayden Library. There are cushy chairs and lots of quiet. I like to take naps there. The rest of Hayden (the major campus library) is also good for sitting and taking deep breaths and reading.
2. Overlooking lobby 7. There's this cute little bench where I like to sit, or sometimes I just like to lean over the balcony and watch people.
3. The new Brain and Cognitive Sciences building. I like to sit on my lab's balcony overlooking the atrium and take in the blue sky through the skylight.
4. The roof of the Student Center. (Not that I've ever, ahem, been there.) I'm sure the roof of the Green Building is even more spectacular.
5. (I said this already, but) Killian Court. Especially on sunny days, you can sit and look at the elegant columns and enjoy the sunshine and watch the river.
6. (Not on campus, but close enough to go on a lunch break) Boston Common. I like to take the T into the city if I have a long lunch and watch the ducks on the duck pond.

mmm the roof of the green building is definitely super-cool.

...and SUPER OFF-LIMITS!!

tsk tsk

1) I agree totally with mootmom's comment - "it quickly and easily becomes home". In a couple of days you figure your way around and can follow the building numbers and the east/west division of the campus etc.

2) As an institute of technology.. what could be a better campus than MIT's ? [click.

3) GREEEN campus can sometimes get on your nerves. I'm in such a campus that's so exceedingly green/red and pretty that it's stupid and you would vomit at times. lol. Sometimes you just want a normal campus in a city setting](http://wearcam.org/media-lab_with_text_und.jpg) along with the greens and MIT has both.

4) It's just the right size. Not a place you will ever get lost in neither feel confined at.
