mit chance

HI,

I live in Vancouver, Canada, and going to MIT's sloan school of management would be a dream of mine.

I have a predicted 40 IB total with all 3 bonus points, which is converted to a 4.0 gpa at my school. My higher courses are 6,6,7 and my standards are 6,6 and 6. 2 of my standard courses are on the verge of turning into 7's.

I scored a 1940 on my SAT with a 720 in math, 650 in CR, and 570 in writing. I will be writing it 2 more times and am confident that i will get 800 on math, and increase my overall score to at least a 2100.

I am also confident that I will get 750+ on my physics and math 1 subject tests.

In terms of EC's, I have been playing football for 5 years, including 2 summer seasons for a total of 7 football seasons in that 5 year span. I have attended many camps, and am being recruited by some schools in British Columbia. If I get admitted into MIT i have every intention of playing on the team as football as a very large passion of mine. I was captain of the JV team when I was in grade 10. Some schools that have contacted me for football include UBC, Princeton, UPenn, Yale, and U of Calgary

I have also played hockey for 8 years, and have every intention of playing hockey at MIT as well. I have been to a number of highly regarded hockey camps, and have been a top contributor on every team I have played on.

I also ran track for 3 years from grades 9-11.

For volunteer work, I have volunteered with kids that have just moved to the country for the past 2 years during the summers. I was involved in a sort of summer school/camp that allows the kids to essentially continue learning english throughout the summer in order to catch up to their peers. I have also been involved in our schools media tutoring program which deals with underprivileged kids who want to learn how to use computers/technology. Furthermore, I have gone on a service trip to kenya for 2 weeks last summer.

I scored a 136 on the Fermat math contest, and was also named a prefect at our school for the 2013 school year. Furthermore i participate in the school mentoring program which sets up current students with new boys who are just entering the school in younger grades to help them get accustomed to the school.

I am extremely hard working, and there is no challenge that I will not take full on. I will always give 110%. MIT would be a dream because it would allow me to pursue a top notch education while allowing for me to continue to play sports competitively. Sports are a huge part of who I am.

Sorry for such a long description, but do I have a shot at getting an interview, and possibly being accepted?

Sorry for the crappy grammar I am running short on time while writing this because my battery is close to dying.

Read…

Clearly it says I am CONFIDENT that my scores will increase drastically. That was writing the test without any preparation, no strategy, figuring it out as i go.

I have taken a course, and in practice tests have raised my score to a 2140. 1940 is just my current score on the real test.

Assuming i get a 2100 or higher, how am I looking?

For MIT, you need near perfect scores. Athletic recruitment usually would have lower academic requirement though.

Sorry, you ain’t nerd enough :D

don’t give up! you have nice ECs, just work on your SAT score! =D good luck! go for 2200+

chance me back?

I have been in constant with the mit defensive coordinator. He said he could ask admissions to take a careful look at me, but that is all. I’m hoping that if I talk to both the football and hockey coaches seperately, and they both talk to admissions I will have a better chance with a mediocre SAT score

I know people are going to give me crap for this, but if you’re a recruit and the coach really wants you, that 1940 really isn’t going to hurt you TOO much. It’s easy to say “go for 2200” etc, but for some kids (like myself) we have pushed ourselves SO hard and studied so much, that a 1940 truly is our best. Don’t know if this is the case, but just saying.

The fact that you’re a recruit really really helps. Good luck!!!

chance me please? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1525710-bowdoin-chances.html#post16144382</a></p>

Again people, lets assume I get a 2100+ because I’m taking it 2 more times and am going to get 800 on math

Can’t chance for a recruit. If not for recruitment, 2100 is not quite enough for MIT. ~2300 with strong EC is typical in the admission stat.

I had a friend who was an athletic recruit to MIT for soccer. He had 2300+ SAT scores, 3.9+ GPA, had talked to the soccer coach and played with the team multiple times before being rejected because his math/science SATII scores and ECs weren’t excellent. It’s hard for us here on CC to accurately gauge your worth to the school as a recruit which makes it hard to chance but understand that being an athletic recruit doesn’t excuse any lackluster scores/
