I was wondering my chance at MIT. I am an international.

SAT 1 score 2040 (try 1, try 2 in October). SAT 2s will be given over November and December.

I am an AP scholar with distinction [ALL self study]. I also am pursuing the IB Certificate (I had to sacrifice the diploma in order to make room for 5 APs). I have 5 IB subjects, of which 4 are HL. My school has nothing to do with APs. Only IB.

My GPA is around 3/4. My school tests are VERY hard and it has happened that the highest in maths is 55/100. Unfortunately there is no weighting.

I have a lot of in-school ECAs to talk about, but nothing exceptional like winning junior Wimbledon or something.

One guy who got in Caltech (but rejected at MIT) said that the essays matter a LOT.

I'd be grateful if you could gauge my chances and offer some advice.

Chances won’t be that great, but it wouldn’t hurt applying. SAT’s should be a little higher, and so should GPA, although if you somehow explain the circumstances, that could change. Do you have leadership in your ECA’s? And what about community service? And yes, essays matter, especially if the rest of your application isn’t the strongest. But apply if you really want to, if MIT is a school you’ve dreamed of going to, I would never discourage you from applying.

Yes I do have a few voluntary services like teaching tennis, cleaning up venues, etc. I have been appointed a post as a prefect in school.

I know MIT is out of my league, but what can I do to turn this around?

I’m basically mentally prepared for a state university (where I will hopefully be happy), but 10 years down the line, I don’t want to think about ‘what may have been’…

This sounds tough, generally schools like MIT/Stanford pull the best technically trained students from other countries to come for undergrad. So its my understanding that is much much more difficult for international students… I could be wrong though, I’m from the US lol.
