hey
I wanted to know what qualities should I have to get my hands on an MIT scholarship. since I live in Iran there’s no such thing as GPA so I’m not quite sure how can I achieve such goal. I am aspiring to improve my skills in English. and I’m pretty confident I can get a good score from both Tofel and SAT. Yet I’m not sure what qualities are required to obtain a scholarship.
P.S. I’m 17 so I have more time rather graduated students.
please let me know if you have encountered such situation or have any knowledge about this subject. I would really appreciate it.
When you say “scholarship”, I assume you mean financial aid.
I didn’t think financial aid was available to international students, but according to the site below, there is some available.
See: http://catalog.mit.edu/mit/undergraduate-education/financial-aid/
MIT is need blind for all students, even internationals. Since there is no US government aid for internationals MIT foots the bill themselves. This is the main reason there is a limit of about 150 internationals accepted to each Freshman class. Since there are no merit scholarships for MIT all scholarships are based on finances. In order to secure a scholarship your family will need to prove their income.
If you are a US citizen this may not apply but just in case:
Also be aware of the travel restrictions in place for Iran at this time, to the USA. I would check on student visas now
before getting too set on an education in the USA. For at least two more years, it may be difficult for Iranians to travel to and from the USA. Look at top universities in the UK, for your education instead.
If you are a US Citizen,
You will need to fill out the FAFSA and CSS Profile, to qualify for financial aid from MIT.
FAFSA is US citizens/PRs only. I heard CSS is available for all international students except those from Iran or North Korea, so I think you need to contact the FA office separately.
