MIT Class of 2010 Official Countdown Clock!!!

that's the spirit :]

3 Days 16 Hours 11 Minutes & 0 Seconds

will u guys do something cool at
3 days 14 hours 15 minutes left?
(~ pi)

we'll all start reciting the digits and not stop until we get our decisions...just kidding I only know like 10 ;)

:P btw, for the ones who don't know the first 10 digits. here it is: 3.141592654. To learn it easily, u can simply think like 14(14+1)15(4+5)9(1+1)2 then 654 consecutively

Here's something a little less obtrusive...

Just a simple PHP image countdown dealie =)

less than three days!!!

what's the predicted number of people MIT will give out admissions this year for RD? what's the percent yield for class of 2009?

The yield for the class of '09 was 67%. You can see many '09 facts-and-figures in a summary blog entry Matt wrote last May. After the letters are safely sent, Matt and Ben will surely comment on some of the "numbers" for the class of '10 (e.g. early next week is my guess), although a summary post similar to Matt's above won't be possible until May sometime after matriculation data is available..

hmm, should we try to predict the MIT acceptance rate for CCers? i'm guessing that it will be pretty high compared to the average acceptance rate.

I think the reported CC admission rate is always much higher than the average rate, because people who don't get in are less likely to share that information with the wide world, but people who do get in will share at a higher rate.

There is actually a very cute trick to remember Pi's first 22 digits, but :( it's in Chinese...

But for those who may be interested, the trick is (read in Mandarin):
山颠一寺一壶酒,而乐苦煞吾,把酒吃,酒散而,散不去,乐尔乐!
3 . 1 4 1 5 9(, )2 6 5 3 5(,)8 9 7(,)9 3 2(,)3 8 4(,)6 2 6(!)

"I think the reported CC admission rate is always much higher than the average rate, because people who don't get in are less likely to share that information with the wide world, but people who do get in will share at a higher rate."

true. but keep in mind 2/3 of the people who post in decision threads have less than 20 posts. but if we take the CC regulars...

That Chinese trick is hilarious. I started cracking up trying to read that.

Yeah you know it's the MIT countdown thread when you can find

in the thread.

i once had pi memorized to 100 digits for about 24 hours....prolly one of the more useless things i have ever done...mayb ill learn it again to kill some time

2 days 13 hours 22 minutes and 43 seconds!

i can't stand this...
What are all of you guys going to do before you type in your ID and PW and click on that "get my decision NOW" button?
Anyone gonna check out the OFFICIAL DECISION _____ thread before clicking? or click it and never come back to CC?
yay for trivial matters

I'm just going to hope that MIT's server doesn't explode. :)

edit, my 11^2th post :)

haha yeah, it would be horrible if the server died on us right at noon on saturday because we'd all GO CRAZY basically :)

i will be on a plane when decisions are posted... i almost cancelled my trip for this reason! if they have plane internet, i will definitely spend the money. it would be fun freaking out on a plane. or if i dont get in, ill just be silent for a few hours, which is what you're expected to do on a plane anyway.

I always check CC before checking anything else. I do that for SATs, i did that for my Yale EA decision, and I will do that for MIT. I'd like to prepare myself for the moment by finding out on CC.
