MIT Class of 2021 Applicants

@ihw1998 ooh! How do I join?

@fmasroor pm me your email

Anyone have any suspicions on the possible decision date?

Can someone add me to the GroupMe? I applied EA. Someone PM me and I will give them my groupme.

Same as mountain geek I would love to be in the groupme and I applied early action as well I think it would be fun and helpful to go through this waiting and process with fellow peers if someone pm me I’ll give you my groupme

i don’t know how to pm on here… can you pm me and i’ll give you my email??

What do you guys think about a 1.75 hour long interview? Mine was very long, spanning lots of interesting and unrelated topics. MIT and related questions regarding me were only about an hour or so of the interview; the rest was miscellaneous talk. Good? Thoughts?

@ManaManaWegi I think mine ran into 2 hours, I didn’t really notice. If you feel ntural in that interview you should be fine! Lots of mine was miscellaneous talk too. Don’t worry about it too much.

@fmasroor it was fun, about 30 minutes in it had become a normal conversation. I was much less nervous after that. I live in a rural area and come from a high school of a little less than 400 kids and no AP classes, my EC said that he’s seen many students (meaning disproportionately many) students admitted from this area ( that he has interviewed ) hopefully that’s good news. We’ll all find out on 3/14, except for early action admits and rejections.

Here were the EA Statistics last year:

Admitted: 8.45%
Deferred: 61.5%
Rejected: 30.1%

@ObitoSigma that’s horrible :frowning:

@ObitoSigma I’m now incredibly discouraged

The high deferral rate is awful. It shows that for MIT, Early Action really means NON-action but sadly, it isn’t unusual. Kinda hard to understand why they go through the effort of running an EA admission cycle without making more up/down decisions but I’m sure they’ve got their reasons.

LOTS of stress in our household - I’ve pushed my daughter to start writing out the immediate steps that will need to be taken if there is no acceptance to one of her early application schools. Other applications will need to be completed and submitted quickly. A couple had December 1 scholarship deadlines and so they have been completed already. The good news is that going through the application process forces the applicants to learn more and more about other options, just reinforcing what we parents have been trying to say along…There really are MULTIPLE colleges out there that will feel like PERFECT fits for each one of you.

Deferrals and/or rejections will feel awful but then…it’s onward and upward!

Looks like it’s next Thursday (12/15) at 6:28pm

Good luck everyone. I remember how down we were last year when our DD was deferred EA by both MIT and Caltech. But in March she was admitted by both and now is a proud freshman at MIT. Deferral is not always a polite rejection.

@HazeGrey do you have a source for that?

There are a lot of good applicants, and we don’t know who we are going to admit from the deferral pool until the case develops more during regular.

Aha, this is why they chose the 15th!
