S rejected.
moving on now

Oops, wrong thread.

MIT massacre?

I have a question. Are all the rejection letters the same?

Here is how it goes:
“Dear …”
The Admissions Committee has completed its review of your application, and I am so sorry to tell you that we are unable to offer you admission to MIT.

Please understand that this is in no way a judgment of you as a student or as a person, since our decision has more to do with the applicant pool than anything else many of our applicants are not offered admission simply because we don’t have enough space in our entering class. This year we had over 15,600 candidates for fewer than 1,600 offers of admission, from which will come our 1,000 freshmen. Since all of our decisions are made at one time and all available spaces have been committed, all decisions are final.

I am very sorry to bring you this disappointing news, and I wish you the very best as you continue with your education.

Sincerely,

Stuart Schmill
Dean of Admissions"

Wow, looking at the EA thread I never really expected it to be this bad

that is what mine says.

so this is how it goes: they accept everyone from my school who applied ED, and then waitlisted/rejected everyone who did regular(including val. and sal.).

same here
10char

rejected…i am crying…i thought i had a chance…

rejected by cornell, waitlisted at washu, accepted by MIT!!!

Dear MIT,

I have completed my review of your application process, and I am so sorry to tell you that admission to MIT is less likely than long term survival with a terminal illness.

Please understand that this is in no way a judgment of MIT as a school, since my decision has more to do with the fact that I was freakin’ rejected than anything else – many other schools offer admission to a reasonable number of applicants simply because they have enough space in their entering classes. This year over 9000 candidates for admissions applied for fewer than 1337 offers of admission, leaving the odds so bleak that admission cannot be considered a statistically significant outcome.

I am very sorry to bring you this disappointing news, and I wish you the very best as you continue with your mass rejection of america’s finest young talent in science and engineering.

Sincerely,

“futureEE”

I’m sure I said that 4 years ago. This year…

“I am writing to let you know about your status with regard
to your graduate application in ************** at MIT. The
admissions committee was very impressed by your file, but
due to very limited resources this year, we are forced to
tightly control the number of offers, and are unable to
make a final decision in your case at this time.”

So far a total of 2 males got in

one girl out of 7 applicants from my school got in. She was deferred in EA.

No one has ever gotten in from my school… including several kids who have been admitted to every ivy. Blargh.
