I got an email from MIT Biological Engineering with the following information :

"
Thank you for you interest in the Biological Engineering Program at MIT. Your Application for Admissions to our Department for 09 / 2009 has been received and is complete.

Applicants who are selected for interviews will be notified in mid/late February and will be invited to visit for Interview Weekend on March 13 & 14, 2009."

... so maybe there's still hope? anyone at MIT who can confirm or deny this?

Hi idundidit- I'm not sure what kind of confirmation you are asking for beyond the text of the email itself which came directly from the department.

I work in MIT BE and all I know is that they are far from dealing out interview invites- if anyone has gotten them then I haven't heard of it. None of my friends who are BE undergrads here at MIT and also applied to this program have gotten anything.

Hi there, I also applied to MIT BCS and havent heard back yet.. :-(
Do they send out invitations for interview day all at once, or is there still a chance for us who haven't heard yet, even after some of us already have?

Hello all, I applied to MIT chemistry and have not heard from them yet. I applied for organic, but my friend who applied for inorganic heard from them that she was accepted about three weeks ago! have any organic ppl heard from MIT chem yet?

oops samarium, i just saw your post. other than MIT,i applied to harvard, seattle, nyu, penn, princeton, ucsd and berkeley. rejected (most likely) from penn and interviews from others.
where else did you apply? good luck to all with hearing back and with interviews :)

yes,
I'm confirming it. Actually, three people got in (2 girls, 1 boy). The boy is definitely going (turning down princeton, berkeley, Minnesota) , the two girls both hold jobs and are leaning towards working.

yes, he got an invite from berkeley. I'm not sure about your stats, but these people are pretty good. The two girls were able to travel abroad, one's a goldwater scholar, near perfect gpa's, good research, etc. I think the tipping point was that all three asked a professor who used to be on the admissions committee for MIT for letters of recommendations (at least that's what he said). He was pretty critical with them and their chances of getting in but still wrote them a letter. Subsequently, they all got in. My very best wishes to you. I'm still waiting for news to some schools too....

Yeah I was going to say, "hey! I'm a goldwater scholar too!".

Could be LOR's then if what you say is true. One of mine was asked on short notice as a replacement, but I don't think it changed the tone or quality in any way.

I'll just keep my fingers crossed. I just hope that it's not something like missing materials. Is it wrong to e-mail the departments about status on the review process?

"MIT has made all of its decisions already, it doesn't decide in waves. I don't know if they have notified everyone yet, although I would imagine that since they send out emails rather than call they probably have. If not, you would certainly hear by the middle of next week."

That's just false. Firstly, I just heard today, which is a couple of weeks after this post. Anyway, they're clearly still inviting and don't do it all at once. I applied for the HST program, which is in the biosciences.
