MIT EA applicants -- Class of 2025

Thanks sherimba30! So they basically went thru the same athletic recruiting process as in other colleges, I mean going through coaches who provide recommendation to MIT/AOs? Interesting, I was told MIT does not have formal athletic recruits.

Congrats!
Could you share your stats, extracurriculars, etc?

Do you know how many EA football recruits there were?

They do, but it’s not a guarantee of admission like at most other schools. It takes you up to approximately a coin toss.

No I don’t, but there were a lot more than got accepted.

Generally about half of the recruited athletes get in. The coach looks over their application and nobody makes that list who isn’t academically qualified for admission. It’s generally that they don’t have another EC that requires a lot of hours.

I think about 10% of the EA admits are varsity athletes since there are 33 sports.

Does MIT requires all scores both SAT and ACT or just either one of those SAT all scores or ACT all scores. As have SAT 1580(780RW, 800M) and 35 ACT(36R, 36W, 35M, 34S), but majoring in science so not sure if is ok 34 in science.

Should I report both or just SAT.

Thank you and Congratulations to all EA who got accepted!

You don’t need to report both. The SAT will put you in the best light.

Thank you so much so we do not need to report both SAT and ACT, just all SAT then. As we called and they said all testing records.

Students should report all sittings (including future sittings) of the SAT, ACT, or English language proficiency exams on the application. Official score reports for these exams are not required unless a student is admitted and chooses to enroll. Any inconsistencies in a student’s self-reporting of exam scores may result in a student’s admission being rescinded.

If you have not reported any score yet, and now only report SAT for RD, they won’t dig out if you have taken ACT or not.

10% is a pretty big #!

Thank you but I have to report all sittings of SAT right? as it states on their application.

If I remember right, for SAT you do not have a choice. College Board will send all of them. However, for ACT, you choose which one to send. If you want to send 2 score for superscore, you have pay double.

For SAT, you can choose which tests to send.

Also, when my DD applied EA, the admissions office told us that we could use score choice. I would call them to confirm.

25% of MIT students play a sport, so a lot of athletes get in without coach’s support.

MIT likes high academic athletes, and it’s not for the same reason the University of Alabama recruits football players.

One boy I know got into MIT several years ago, and almost died when he tried to complete the 200 freestyle test. I heard that test is mandatory, LOL.

I wish can send one SAT scores as have like first time 1480, 1540 and then 1580. Did not know before they want all sittings until started filling out application and was thinking not sure if 1480 would look so bad to even consider applying at all. But did call and they said they want all sittings of either SAT or ACT. Thank you

We know MIT produced many famous scientists, engineers, leaders, etc., just wondering if there are any notable MIT athletes, given the fact “athletes” are so much favored in its admission?

MIT produces engineers, it doesn’t recruit engineers. The suggestion implicit in your question is obvious.

MIT also values high school kids who play piano well. Does that mean that MIT should be expected to produce great pianists?

My kid got in and is an athlete. He also got a 1570 in 9th grade, only sitting, and 800, 800, and 770 on the subject tests in 8th and 10th. AIME qualifier 2x, and 15 APs, all 5s aside from one 4 in a foreign language. Straight As. Tons of other ECs spanning music, sports, college classes, research, and leadership.

Still, he may not have gotten in without sports. But he may also not have gotten in without music or AP European History. He won’t be a professional athlete, but he also won’t be a professional musician or a historian.
