--MIT Early Action Countdown Thread--

^dang so psychologically its best in a persons interest to submit the app earlier huh?

If decisions date is the 13th, then we have about 75 hours til decision time, assuming they release them at 12 pm est. scary...

and yes, psychologically yes. A couple of adcoms have told me that the first 250 applications are much more exciting to read than the last 250 apps. That's why I applied in mid September and worked all summer long on apps. Scary stuff man, scary stuff...

If Millerl1te is correct, and they read them in the order that they are received, I am curious about when you all submitted yours.

I submitted Oct 23!

I will double check to make sure MIT does that before I assume that all universities do that. I know Harvard def does that, as do all of the Ivies.

Found: "Once your application is complete, it will first be read by a senior admissions officer who will consider your application in a holistic manner, within its proper context." MIT Admissions: The Selection Process: Application Reading, Committee, And Decisions

Maybe mollie can confirm?

I read somewhere that "we read the most complete applications first," but that of course didn't indicate what order they read them in.

oh well, doesn't matter too much, because we're getting our decisions soon!

The applications are passed out to admissions officers in the order that they're received, but each application is read more than once (after the first reader is done with it). No decisions are made during reading; decisions are only made during the ~weeklong selection process, when all applications are discussed again in small groups.

There's no effect of reading order on admission. The reading process is quite standardized.

just for fun q. Do u guys think they have made all their decisions or are they still deciding on some? u guys prolly don't know they answer but its intersting to think about that way.

[/quote]

I'm actually not sure they've made any decisions yet. As I said above, decisions aren't made until the weeklong selection process, and generally decisions don't finish being made until about the day before mail day.

Just joined. Anyone else from RSI 08 apply for ea?

^ I did, I think a lot of us did.

Mollie, does this meant that there is a greater possibility that decisions will be released next week?

^^Well they've read files... now they are probably consulting each other whether its the big "YES" or big "NO"... im pretty sure they've read most of the applications... and are starting to consult as teams... cuz they have said not one person reads it and renders a decision... everyone gets a copy of ur file for the selection committee...

so, um, anyone know the date? Hope it's before the 13th >_>

wow, i'm just hoping that it is the 13th. before the 13th is quite unrealistic and afterwards (on the 20th) seems to be a safe bet here.

does anyone know if applying EA alone (excluding all credentials) gives a boost in admissions?

^^ eh not that much unless u do ED to schools... i heard EA is just like if ur really wanting the school apply early for small benefit...

oo *** my bad i was trying to point at prime235 and somehow my post came before his

o shoot, I meant EA+ED (all the early stuff, lol), would that alone help admissions? or would it just be showing u want to go to the school?

ED does bro... have u seen Penn+JHU acceptance rates for ED!!??? its ridiculous... UPenn has like 42% ED acceptance rate last year... JHU has ED acceptance rate at 48% (nearly 50 like woah)... this is all from the US News package list my friend got...

Me too. Right now, I'm beginning to suspect the 20th. It just hit me yesterday that there is a 50% chance that decisions will come out on Saturday.

I bet at some schools it would, but I doubt that at MIT. Don't they have the same acceptance rates for both EA and RD?

LAST YEAR did it come out on the 13th or the 20th?

last year they came out on the 15th because it was a saturday.
