--MIT Early Action Countdown Thread--

We are now within one week of the decision.

Thankfully, I have tons of calculus and chemistry to do between now and then, so I won't be thinking about it all of the time.

Omg i totally want to make the thread

My plan is to stay far far far away from this website until then.

But I have no self control, so we'll see how that goes.

I am going to try to spend the least amount of time possible on this website until I get my decision (I'm with you lavieboheme)

I'm with ham and lavieboheme, but I don't think I'll be able to resist.

here i am back again... I lasted 51 minutes (apparently 60 according to this thread) I am probably going to get deferred. I wish I would just stop obsessing about it and do my homework.

Same.

How am I going to take this torture for another week?

ahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

thank goodness my hw load is light this year...i can't possibly concentrate...reading novels is an excellent distraction =]

I'm gonna get deferred at best. :( And then rejected. :'(

@elven_hobbit:

yeahhh, i still have one week stuck in my head.
good stuff.

This has probably already been covered in this thread, but just to reiterate: if you get deferred, it IS NOT the end of the world!!! I was deferred, as were several of my friends who were also very, very promising candidates, and was later accepted in the RD round. I'd imagine that this year they'll hold back on accepting people EA; with so many people applying, they will probably want to wait and see what the RD round brings before accepting a lot of the class.

^^^dang.......

The only reason getting deferred is so bad is having to wait that much longer =/

^not to mention trying much harder... what happened to me slackin off dammit...

yeah if I can't handle waiting like 2 months for a decision...how am I supposed to last 5 months!!!!

Are there more EA applications this year than the past?

Anyone know if RSI increases your chances- like are Rickoids accepted almost automatically, or about 50% or what? They told us not to apply to a bunch of schools and i'm thinking maybe i should if EA doesn't come thru.

RSI (and WTP, and MITES) doesn't necessarily "increase" your chances, but the presence of those programs on applications lets MIT know that you were already qualified enough in the first place to get into those selective programs.

Rickoids, especially, tend to be ridiculously qualified already, so they have a higher chance of getting into any school, not just because they went to RSI.

what the hell is rickoids, RSI, WTP, MITES... all these random things lol...

Im happy i did Shad Valley lol

Yeah I didn't do any of these programs, but I did research all summer 5 days a week all day at a medical college. From this research I won the grand prize in my state science fair and won an award at Intel. I think this is just as good as doing these summer programs..at least I hope it is?
