Did anyone get interviews?

D23 is scheduled for one in about 10 days time. Submitted an application on 10/26 and got an invite 2 days ago.

We out in the suburbs of a large city in the SW.

Interviewer is a recent graduate.

That’s very helpful, as you can ask about the campus, culture, opportunities, etc.
When my D22 went through the process, her interviewers at two other T-10 schools had graduated in 1977 and 1983. Not being ageist, but they were unable to provide her any useful information about life of campus that was applicable in 2021.

My son just told me a school mate just got an acceptance letter from MIT? Wow they are early with acceptances.

Must be a different MIT. Or the school-mate isn’t being truthful.

The MIT that’s the topic of this thread does not send out early acceptance letters.

I thought it was a bit too early for EA… especially since he is not an impacted student nor an athlete. Weird that he would be showing a letter of acceptance around.

It’s not hard to create one at home.

Sorry if I may ask…who is an “impacted student”?

Schoolmate is lying.

Special circumstances.

Very important to get to know the current culture and rigor. I feel only recent graduates can give a better idea on that. Mine talked to lot of her seniors and friends at the school to get enough info. Good luck to your kiddo. Can’t be more proud to say D22 is class of 2026 and is loving there.

@advitha thanks, visit during WISE was insightful.

Thank you, we toured with a family friend who was a student. DD fell in love, we shall see…

D23 had a 45 min engagement with her interviewer. Mainly talking about herself, ECs, and why MIT, a positive rapport she concludes. Though from different majors both parties were pleased with the discussions.

Interviewer asked her to keep in touch, especially with the outcome of her application.

S23 had about a 55 min interview with a young alumn via zoom (in the same state but not close by). It was relaxed and lots of laughing and getting along. They talked about hobbies, classes, MIT, etc. A wide variety. Overall a good experience. S realizes it’s a long shot for anyone, but wanted to try.

Sort of jealous! My D had her interview, but it was definitely not relaxed and fun like her other interviews have been. He wanted a copy of her resume beforehand, and it was really a technical grilling. It seemed more like a job interview, no attempt to personally connect or show empathy about the process. It was disappointing compared to the few others she’s had so far, and unfortunately has impacted her view of MIT, as much as she’s telling herself she can’t judge the school by this.

My son just had interview this week. He said it went well and had a lot in common with his interviewer. The interviewer graduated in the early 90’s but that seemed to be a plus for the conversation. She said she’d be submitting a great review to admissions.

Admissions also emailed last night about 2 AP scores, Calc BC and World History. The calc was a 5 and the WH was a 2. Fingers crossed the 2 doesn’t drag him down.
