I read a few sample essays from MIT accepted students. Some of them are professional, and some of them are super quirky. Is one of these better than the other? Ex. writing about giving wet willies vs programming applications. I know I have to stand out and be unique, but would it be enough to write about mostly "sane" topics while using an engaging style?

wondering the same

For what it’s worth, I’m writing my MIT essays with a professional-yet-quirky style. If I chose to write about programming applications, I might include a few puns about pushing forward with basic backtracking algorithms and the death of a traveling salesman, but my overall tone would be similar to the tone of this paragraph (with slightly better writing, perhaps).

EDIT: It’s rather late at night here. If it were morning, I might have better puns. :)
