I might as well post my questions here since it's a topic on essay:

Is it proper to use the acronym MIT on your essays? Also, is it okay to use contractions?

^^^^sure, you can.

u can PM me too. I'll read it for you.

You Can Send it to me at my email,
i got deferred EA'

Sure, PM me!
I already got in :)

sure pm me bro,

i can help :D

How many words are your essays? Is 717 words essay too long?

^they ask for approx. 500. my interviewer told me that they don't mind 500-600, but after that they are like "this kid doesn't know how to follow directions." it's not really "annoying," per say, but its a mental note the admissions officer will take. i cut mine from 750 to 620. trust me, its possible.

mine is around 720. I think its fine as long as its one page?

Mine was about 565, just naturally worked out that way thankfully

Please do use contractions! I don't know where people got the idea that contractions must be avoided like the devil in writing, but you'll find that they make your writing MUCH more natural-sounding, especially in a personal essay like the kind MIT wants. Just write the same way that you talk, and you'll come across more like a person than a list of scores and stats.

Plus, they cut down your word count. :)

^ 'they cut down your word count' means?

Means it helps you stay within word limits ^^

My additional essay is about 1000 words...I can't squeeze it anymore...Will that be okay??

I read (I think on here actually) that they really want you to be near the word limit (within 50-100 words on either side). So probably 1000 words is too much. My guess is you're giving too much background or just in general being verbose. I really don't know. Mine was 497 and I got in EA. I was happy with mine being short and to the point.
