My name is Joao, I’m from Brazil and I have applied to the fall transfer of 2018. Did any one have applied too and can share your profile in order of just all of us get a little picture?
I think my profile is very multidisciplinary, I do not have great grades, instead I pointed some actions aout in my transfer application and I hope can help the grade issue. I am undergraduated second year: I have this initial major in Computer Engineering and personally a focus on AI, but I have already used AI in Health , earning for two years 3 Health/Diabetes awards at my university and other American universities, which earned me the Dean’s recommendation from the School of Health Sciences for MIT now. I worked for two years with AI research in the Energetics area, generating a paper in English, thus yielding my second recommendation from Mentor Professor to this research. Another AI application was my two years working at Groupe Renault applying to AI in digital manufacturing, yielding two other letters of recommendation, one from my research mentor professor and another from my Groupe Renault supervisor. Another activity is my startup that I have worked, with Mondelez and Deutsch Post DHL for example, which gave me the letter of recommendation from the manager of DHL as a customer. My startup recently received an Italian investment offer and a proposal to open a subsidiary in Italy. Going to the human side, I already won an award for best poem writer of my university, and also work to assist the I believe with AI. This is all my profile and I am pointing to them, I also pointed out that I want to do a double major in Aerospace Engineering & Electrical Engineering / Computer Science (the latter, double course, is the same as my Computer Engineering there) and a double minor in Philosophy & Biomedical Engineering.
Hey there Joao. You’ve done many impressive things in college, so props to you! When transferring, your grades in college are extremely important, do you know your GPA? (Pode usar a sua media mesmo, na escala 1 - 10)
On top of that, you need to have taken 2 SAT subject tests (one in Math I or II, and another test in the sciences). You don’t have to take the normal SAT/ACT since you’re foreign, you can just take the TOEFL.
You have plenty of rec letters which is great, but you need three from your professors at your current university. You can submit two rec letters from anyone who isn’t your professor, but those 3 are mandatory.

Uma dica, apply to other colleges in the U.S. that are strong in engineering. I know MIT has the huge name in Brazil or whatever, but admissions in the US is sooooo much more complicated than in Brazil. There are a lot of factors to an applicant here, while in Brazil it’s just your vestibular grade lol. Do you have any other colleges on your list besides MIT?
Hey, thank you for your advices! I didn’t made the calculation of my GPA yet. I have seen the point about the letters, so my professors already sent 3 of them and the another 2 ones was sent via mail, according to MIT transfer policies.
Your dica about appling to another U.S. colleges is great! But at this time I do not want put this kind of effort in another one, If I did not take a spot, on MIT, my plan is just keep on my degree here.
Thank you very much for your considerations, I really appreaciate.
Hi, I also applied to MIT to EECS major!
How come nobody is writing anything on this thread… at least 500 of students applied to MIT transfer for fall 2018…
@illiniBoyi Hahahaah I get that a lot! So I ended up not applying to MIT because of their SATII requirement. My test scores weren’t up to par with their average, so I didn’t really bother. I don’t regret it too much since my current list is already reach-heavy. Wishing you all the best as the decisions come out!
