Hi everybody, I’m planning to transfer from a top LAC(ranking top15) to MIT. I wonder if this worked before or if it’s possible?
I want to major in Mathematics with computer science at MIT. I’m also an international student.
I took my SAT and SAT II. With 1510 in SAT and 800,750 in Math II and chem.
For my schedule, it will be pretty advanced in math and CS. All the math class and computer science class with be 200 classes(for sophomore). For my GPA projection I will say it will be around 3.85 or so.
Google “MIT Common Data Set” and look at section D. The school takes very few transfers (accepted 23 out of 569 in 2016). You can try, but don’t count on it happening.
Unsolicited advice: In general I think it is a terrible idea to start one college with the intent of transferring out. This will stand in the way of your making meaningful friendships, developing relationships with professors, and getting involved on campus. Then if your transfer doesn’t work out as planned you will be really stuck. I’d go to the college you enrolled in with the intent of staying all four years. It is fine to throw in a transfer application but don’t count on it working out.
