When we send our transcripts by mail, do they first need to be translated by an official translator, or can we translate it ourselves (it’s not exactly complicated) or by someone who knows how?

@americanschools -

have your teacher type on a separate form and attach it to the top sheet.

i believe your school transcript needs to be translated by an official translator. however i don’t coordinate international admissions so i am not sure. i would email mitintl@mit.edu to check.

MITChris,

I was on the following page : [MIT Admissions | Blog Entry: “About MIT Recommendation Letters”](http://www.mitadmissions.org/topics/apply/the_freshman_application/about_mit_recommendation_lette.shtml)

My humanities teacher is not available at all, and I believe will not be back in school until Mid-Feb. Your website states that you recommended us to get a teacher knows us inside and outside class. My business and marketing teacher (the same person) knowns me inside class as I was taught by him for 2 years in those two courses and knows me outside classes in a business club.

This is the closest humanities subject related teacher I can find. Will you accept his recommendation letter ? Will I be disadvantaged for picking him as my humanities teacher. I simply cannot find another teacher who falls in the Humanities subject category.

Please advice.

yes, we will.

Alright. I emailed MIT admissions and I asked whether they will accept my marketing teacher’s recommendation letter and they said no. I emailed back saying, that the same teacher has taught me the marketing course and the business course. I haven’t gotten the updated response yet but I think since he taught me business as well, I should be fine right ? In business, we do cover a bit of economics, accounting, and marketing so I believe it should be enough to substitute for a humanities course ?

Thanks.

Hi Chris!

So I contacted my interviewer back in October, who said that he will let me know of his schedule soon. But I have not received any email from him since, despite having sent a reminder in November. Basically, I don’t have an interview scheduled, and I don’t have any way to contact him unless he gets back to me.

I really hope he gets back to me before the end of December at the least. when is the latest date the interview can be done? In case he doesn’t respond, will I get penalized for not having had an interview?

I sent an email to interview@mit.edu about this, but havent got a response yet… :(

we should get back to you soon. very busy here. sorry!

If I wait until December SAT test date scores are out, then order the score report (normal, no rush shipping), will they still be processed in time?

i honestly don’t know. aren’t you international?

Whether or not MIT will accept the scores, I wouldn’t take the chance. (I don’t trust the College Board any further than I can throw them, due to some score screwups encountered in my grad school applications.)

There isn’t a downside to sending the scores as soon as you take the test, as far as MIT is concerned. If the scores are lower than previous scores you’ve gotten, they won’t be considered.

I am international. I’m just waiting on one science SAT II test score that I took in December so… not quite sure how I did there.
At any rate, I guess I’ll just send the score report tomorrow or something and list MIT as a direct recipient for December.

I sent my interviewer an e-mail request on November 30th and again on December 8th, but he e-mailed me back on the 9th with two dates that I couldn’t make because I would be going overseas. I specified this in the e-mail, and I returned his e-mail asking if there are any other dates available. He has not yet e-mailed back. Should I ask the admissions office to waive my interview, and is it even worth it to apply if they don’t? I know the interview is not the end-all be-all but I doubt I have a chance without it. However, I feel like this mishap wasn’t my fault.

Hello,
I am an EA student and I recently found out that a vocal supplement I sent in October was either never received or has been lost. Is there any way for me to resend it and have it considered in time for EA decisions? Or is it somewhat of a lost cause? It was not integral to my application, but I did think it was important.
Thanks.

SchsKid1, give your interviewer another few days – you will probably be able to get this ironed out and have your interview at a time that works for both you and your EC. If you are unable to find a mutually acceptable date, you can certainly ask to have your interview waived. It’s up to you whether you want to apply without an interview, but it’s certainly not impossible to get in without one. (I didn’t have an interview, for example.)

elf465, it’s too late for your supplement to be considered for EA decisions. But if you are deferred, you can certainly re-send your supplement and have it considered for RD. (And if you’re admitted, then it doesn’t even matter! :))

elf -

not for EA, but you can for RA.

Hi Chris!
I would like to ask you if it matters if in the short answer questions we write about 260 words? That’s 10 words over the 250 limit. Is it ok?

^They’ve said multiple times that its okay. Rule of thumb, according to one of them, is to keep it within 10% of the limit (i.e. 275).

hey Mollie or Chris i have a question about SAT scores

I applied early to MIT but i just retook my sat one more time in december… should i wait to see if i get deferred before i send my new score, or will that be too late to be considered for RD? Should i just include MIT to get them directly now regardless of what happens for EA?

It won’t be too late to have the score considered if you wait to see if you’re deferred – RD applicants can take December or January tests, which don’t arrive at MIT until much later. And, of course, it’s just a difference of three days, after all. :)

But if you want to send it right now, or if it’s more convenient that way, that’s no problem whatsoever.

alright thanks alot =]
