I’m an international student and my school is not listed on MyMIT while registering. What do I do?

You should probably talk with your counselors about this – MIT won’t care which one submits the counselor report, as long as he is a counselor at your school.

If your district considers it math, it’s fine to list it under math. The self-reported coursework form is just a way to help MIT better understand your transcript – as long as you’re internally consistent and your categorization makes sense, it will be fine.

Of course. You should probably talk with your teachers and make sure they submit the forms by the EA due dates.

Okay, that’s what I thought.
Thanks,

My teachers requested the evaluation forms in June. So, i gave the forms to my math teacher and English teacher in june. Today, i logged onto MyMIT to work on my application and print out forms for my guidance counselor. I noticed that the forms were different than the ones i gave to my teachers in june. Also, the mailing address for the forms was different.
When school starts this week, i will give my teachers the updated forms.
Chances are, however, they probably have already completed and possibly mailed the forms i gave them in June.
Is this a problem?
Should they fill out the updated forms?
Thanks

How did you have recommendation forms in June when the application was only released a week ago?

Perhaps Honey12 obtained the last year’s form by clicking ‘Entering Year 2011’ in his MyMIT account.

@Honey12: Did you apply last year? Or, did you register for MyMIT last year with entering date 2011?

This may well be the case. :O

How do I request a new EC? Mine has apparently moved to Texas since he last updated his MIT EC information (I live in Ohio) so the one I have currently assigned will not work.

Write to the admissions Office at admissions@mit.edu

something like this. :)

Hello once again.
I will be applying to MIT later this year. On my MIT account I found the contact information for my interviewer. Should I contact him myself to schedule an interview, and, if so, how soon? Also, if the interviewer’s area code is different from mine does this mean I will have a phone interview?

Hello,

Could you tell me the differences between scholastic distinctions and non-scholastic distinctions? USABO would be non-scholastic distinction?

Thanks!

I’m part of at team that participates in an engineering competition and we have done reasonably well. I’m putting this in my activities section, but the problem is, the name of the competition is so long that it goes past the character limit of the textbox. Is MIT okay with abbreviations? If I put “Int’l” for “International”, it would fit… is that ok?

Also, I’m full-time at my local high school and part-time at another online high school. I guess I’ll need to send in a separate transcript from each school, but do I need 2 Secondary School Reports or just one from the school that I’m full-time at?
I barely know the counselor at the online high school…

Yes, you should contact your interviewer to schedule an interview, if you want to have an interview. For EA, you need to contact your EC and schedule an interview by Oct 20; for RD, you need to do this by Dec 10. Your EC should be in your geographic area.

You can divide these distinctions any way it makes sense to you: school-related vs. non-school-related, academic vs. non-academic. There’s a helpful blog entry from Matt McGann on this subject here.

Of course.

I would think you would only need one secondary school report, but check with the admissions office to be sure.

Thanks mollliebatmit!

We have more than 5 to list for scholastic distinctions, what do we do?

Hi, so this is my first post here!

molliebatmit, I sent you a PM with a question concerning a particular situation I have (I don’t really want to put too much info online). From what I’ve seen, you’re the authority on these things hahaha.

Hi guys,i ma a tunisian an i have been assigned an egyptian EC
any way, i massaged him to ask him about the way we’re going to conduct the meeting(on skype,or if he is working in Tunisia…)
but i didn’t hear from him for about 2 weeks

what should i do ???
thank you!!

You should list the five distinctions that are most important to you. If you want, you can list more in the “anything else you’d like to tell us” box, or send a list as supplemental information, but MIT will focus most on the five you list in the space in the application for scholastic distinctions.

No need to worry yet – it’s still very early to contact your EC. You could send a polite follow-up message, because of course it’s possible he is out of email contact or that your email is stuck in spam. If he doesn’t reply in another few weeks, you should contact the admissions office.

Hi,
could you please tell me when the 2012 application will open for those who applied last year and want to reapply this one?

I don’t think there’s any separate application system for the re-applicants . It has started on Aug 19. You can apply.

My international school does not have a counselor. Also, my Principal is away for a while. Can my class teacher fill up my secondary school report? She knows me better too.

Thanks

I was wondering how many of the International students who get in don’t have any kind of international awards such as the Olympiads, etc?(with good grades, rec, ECs, etc.)
