Where do high school courses that were taken in 7th & 8th grade go on the MIT application? The grade level drop down boxes are 9-12.

Also do I list my anticipated dual enrollment courses for next semester? Thanks.

Some people will enter 9 and then, at the end of the course, put (Grade8) or (8th) for example.

Just list them under 12 with no grade.

Is this something to be concerned about: My Calculus teacher (Evaluation A) sent her recommendation a few days before my European History teacher (Evaluation B), but only the Evaluation B has been processed so far. (I applied Early Action)

hello chris, i am applying from australia and i graduated high school last month. i know that i uave to apply RA, but which school report should i send. i realise that its not supposed to be mid-year report, but is it better to send year report (which was given by school) or graduation certificate (which was given by Australian Board Of Studies)? thanks…

Hey Chris, I plan on taking my SAT subject tests in January so that I can be confident that I’ll be prepared for it. I was wondering if I can send in my application by the Jan. deadline and then send in the scores in February when they are released.

Hi MITChris or Mollie, MIT EA was the first college app I ever submitted, so I was pretty excited to send everything in at once…now that I have calmed down and carefully read my app, I am finding small typos dispersed here and there, like spelling ‘through’ as ‘though’, leaving out the ‘a’ in ‘in A hurry’, spelling ‘chemistry’ as ‘cheimstry’, ‘science’ as ‘scince.’ my essays were mostly typo-free, but my biographical info, which i checked the least, had about 8 of those typos :(. I hate myself for being so rash. If my other parts of the app are fairly strong, would you guys penalize me for this please help a hopeless kid :(

Also, my November SAT I scores are already being sent in one week

Good luck to all of you who applied to M.I.T. I hope yiu all get in. Hopefully we’ll be there in 2017. Once again good luck all of you

You need to select MIT as a score recipient at the time you take the test – you can’t wait until the scores are released in February and then send them to MIT. But if you select MIT as a score recipient at the time you take the test, the scores will be delivered to them in time to review your application.

Of course not.

This has probably been asked before, but if we applied early, how will we find out our admissions decision and on what day? Will it be on the MyMIT account, or will another website be set up, with a pin and password given to each applicant? and what day do decisions come out? thanks!

Decisions will be available with your MyMIT account/password, but will be on a separate decisions website, so that nobody can get his/her decision by accident. The site will be posted before decisions come out.

The date for decisions hasn’t yet been determined – MIT can’t announce a date until they have gotten through enough of selection committee to know that they will be done by a particular date. EA decisions have typically been released around December 15, but the precise day won’t be announced until early December.

Ok, thank you

I see on Chris’ blog post that he has already read some applications. I applied early action, and I have something supplemental that I am sending to MIT tomorrow. It could not be sent by the deadline due to circumstances outside of my control. Does MIT look at this even if my application has already been read?

Applications are read many times by different people, so although some of your readers might not see your supplemental information, some of them certainly will.

MITChris, I will be applying to MIT as a freshman applicant this fall and I had a quick question about the application. At the end of Part 2 it says,

"(Optional) No admission application can meet the needs of every individual. If you think additional information or material will give us a more thorough impression of you, please respond below."

Would I be able to attach my personal statement I used for the Common App? MIT has several short answer questions and the topic my personal statement addresses is not addressed in any of the short answer questions.

Also, if I am a recruited athlete, would it be in my best interest to apply as soon as possible, even though I will not be notified of the decision any earlier?

Yes, you can put any information you like in that space, including an additional essay.

No, MIT doesn’t make any (RD) admissions decisions earlier than the full admissions committee meeting in late February/early March. The date you apply has no effect, positive or negative, on whether you will be admitted.

I recently won a distinction in a regional competition.

Should I email this update to MIT admissions now (as part of the email or in a Word document?), or should I wait maybe a week or two when MIT gets a little less busy?

Hi,
I’m a senior from Dubai, and my school follows the CBSE(Indian) curriculum. My school grades have always been pretty high right upto the beginning of my senior year; they dropped in the first semester and now I have a ‘B’ in a couple of subjects. However, my school conducts a pre-board examination (a crucial series before our national testing conducted by the CBSE board) in the month of January, the results for which will be available by the end of jan. If I can bring them up to all A’s, probably come at the top of my class, would my first term grades affect my chances as much? :/

Also, I plan to take the TOEFL in December, and SAT reasoning in Jan. If my toefl scores are good, and SAT relatively lower (jan would be my first attempt), would that be fine?
My SAT II scores are as follows: Physics-800, Chemistry-780, Math level 2-780.

Any feedback would be much appreciated! :D
