MIT FAQ for application year 2011-2012 (with answers by MITChris)

BTW-I thought I logged an error, but when I look at the web page the rotating gif is still going around and around. Not good.

Oh, @PiperXP,
My word counts are:
90, 100, 219, 250, 241 and 456 for the free response.

HLLivingLoco, just either email or fax your copy of the application (and I would recommend fax, as Chris has said it’s their preferred method of submission). I’m sure this can be straightened out in the coming days – the admissions office is very flexible with deadlines when problems in submission are on their end.

Just realized that I said mid “December” instead of “January” in my last post. Oops.

Thank you molliebatmit, MITChris, and PiperXP for all the help!

@molliebatmit

I sent a fax. The Administrative Officer also replied and gave me some advice. Thanks for the help!

@molliebatmit .thanks so much!

Firstly my best wishes for a happy 2012!
Secondly, I had sent my Online Application Part 1 before and sent my Part-2 on 31st.
Before submitting, I previewed my Part-2 app like atleast 10 times. But then when I finally sent my Part-2 app, and previewed the pdf copy there was one huge error( not on my part though).
The replies to one of the prompt( the world you come from… prompt) had a few words truncated. Infact last word of 5-10 sentences(i.e 1st word from the right) got truncated and huge spaces were generated in between the sentences. As a result of this the essay has now become meaningless.
Now what should I do- explain all this in an email and attach a copy of the orignal essay that I intended to write or something else or call them up?
P.s The essay was even 10 words less than the word limit of 250 words.

Chris, mollie, piper please help me out?

No dude you have to built a large hadron collider under your house to get in
:)

^ hahahahahahahahahahah … LMAOssssss …

On the midyear report, I wanted to include an “essay” which would probably give necessary context of myself as a person. However it only give you 250 words of space. I could probably squeeze a 250 essay in there, but that would leave no room to write out any of my additional achievements/activities. I really do think the information I gave in my essay is important (and it’s hard to convey in less than 250 words); is it worth leaving out my new achievements?

And btw, I applied EA and got deferred so I can’t put the essay in the “additional info” section.

Do EA admits have to submit the Midyear Report as well?

^ everyone has to do the midyear report

If I have a patent under my name that is recognized by the World Intellectual Property Organization, would it have a major affect in the admission process?

where to look for MIT Graduate admission in Department of Biological Engineering(MIT)

I faxed a home-school supplement but, I have realized that my intended spring classes will be too difficult to manage and I mailed the revised supplement. What will likely be looked at the fax or mailed copy?

Hello folks. So I was accepted EA this year, and my finals are next week. I have been really paranoid recently because some people have been telling me that if I do badly on my finals, my admission will be rescinded…if I do badly on my finals I will get 4 Bs and 2 As…of course I do plan on studying for finals and hopefully doing better than that, but I was wondering, how bad would my grades have to be for me to get my admission rescinded? again, I don’t plan on pushing my grades to these limits; I am just wondering to hopefully be more at ease.

I have a really tricky question: As it turns out, I already graduated, but I am in sort of a gap year, do I still need to submit a mid year report if my entire high school transcript is available? or what should I do?

Use the button that says I am not currently attending school, MIT has all my graes and submit a really good joke.

Just fax or mail the essay with a note saying it was cut off. No big deal.

This is a personal judgement call – I can’t really help.

As far as I know, yes.

Having a patent is a great thing, and you should certainly write it on the application. It’s not really possible to quantify the effect that such a credential has on the admissions process.

The CC Graduate School forum is here.

I assume you included a note with the revised copy indicating that it was a revised copy.

There aren’t published guidelines, and everybody’s grades are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

heyy i wanted to ask … do the RA applicants also get THE TUBE (on getting accepted) ???

Hey Im from germany, and i just wanted to ask how high the chances are for international students to be accepted? By which qualifications are they measured? And how do their applications work? Probably done online right?

Thanks
