What would it mean if I stayed on the waitlist? Most colleges require those admitted to accept admissions by May 1st, is there any chance MIT will let us know by then? If I stay on the waitlist, am I obligated to go if MIT offers admissions?

Yes, waitlistees can send in updates, but it would be better to wait… don’t send stuff in all the time bombarding them. I’m sure you’ll get some information on sending in updates.

Hey guys, there will definitely be a post by one of the admissions guys over the next few days about the waitlist – you can also search for posts from previous years, as the info remains mostly the same.

In general, the waitlist is unranked, and if it is determined that MIT will go to the waitlist, the admissions committee will convene again and discuss all the waitlisted applicants to decide whom to admit. It is to your benefit to send any updates, but you don’t need to send them right away. The admissions office will not know how many people they can admit from the waitlist until after May 1, so you will need to pick another college by the May 1 date. If you are accepted from the waitlist, you will have about two weeks to decide whether you choose to attend MIT or not.

SO i got rejected…
Let say I take a gap year next year … can i still re-apply as a freshman in fall of 2012 for 2013 fall semester?
If during that time I take some classes at community college, is that OK or will I have to apply as a transfer student? (I did not take physics or Calculus in high school so i think its pretty much the reason I got rejected)
THANK YOU.

Hi,
Question to MIT officials. I was applying from Russia, and I was rejected. I know 4 students that were also applying from Russia, they were rejected as well. Are there any accepted Russian students?
Thank you.

Ooh!! Just got a text from my son (MIT '15) that he saw MITChris in person today!! Exciting and I hope to do the same when we visit at CPW to say hi and thank you!

To MIT admissions:
Do you guys open links during your application reading process? I got rejected (not unexpected), but just want to know why the URL I provided wasn’t opened (checked with Google Analytics). Do you pre-filter applications which you decide to read by some other means? I’m disappointed not every part of my application was considered.

@actprep
Same thing happened to me… I sent a link to something I made (for my MIT app) with my MYR (deferred EA, assumed all included updates would be looked at), and it was never looked at. It’s a tad discouraging that I’ve heard admissions talk about how they consider everything, but in actuality everything may not be looked at. I know it wouldn’t have changed the outcome, but it would put me more at ease.

I got rejected from MIT. Can’t blame them at all, I had virtually nothing in my application when compared to others who got in.

I was just wondering, can I enrol for some classes at MIT from UMass Amherst? I got in there and I am going to be attending it. I would like to apply for transfer next or 2 years later…

Thanks and a BIG HUG to all those who helped me in the applications, that includes the adcoms, alums and of course my EC (who’s not replying to my thank-you mail for some reason), Thanks a lot :D

Okay, so now I wanna know what are the chances of getting accepted as a transfer student from imperial?

And would I still need to send all my high school transcripts and all? What would I need for a perfect transfer application hypothetically speaking?

Oh also, does the degree that I’ll be enrolled for in Imperial affect my application somehow?
