MIT FAQ for application year 2012-2013

FYI all- an update from MIT Admissions on the “Mail Pyramid”:

I just had a look at the additional info section from my submitted application, and it seems that the part detailing my computer programming/sysadmin skills has been cut off. The same information is included in a paper resume I mailed to MIT, but I’m not sure if they’ll look at it, considering their stated disdain for such documents. Should I email the offending paragraph to the admissions office to ensure that they’ll read it?

MIT doesn’t “disdain” paper resumes, just requests that you not use a resume as a replacement for the application. The admissions officers will read everything you send them, and there’s no functional difference between sending the paragraph via email or snail mail – there’s no need to send the paragraph twice.

I want to ask about the ISFAA. In the Fianacial Aid web page of MIT, it’s stated that my parents have to contact MIT in order to have the ISFAA form. So what document or anything that is required that I need to send to MIT to get the ISFAA form? Or I can only email to MIT and ask for the form itself? Thank you guys a lot. CC really helps me get out of many troubles :)

I have a question about test scores. I logged onto my.mit.com today and looked at the application tracking page, and in the test scores section, the only date it lists for my subject tests is May of last year. I’ve retaken them since then (Math II in November and Physics in December) with significantly better results and had both of them sent directly to MIT from the test center. Does this mean that MIT doesn’t have my better scores?

Which form do you mean? The ISFAA cover sheet? That’s located here.

It could mean that MIT hasn’t received your scores, or it could mean that the application tracking is not yet up-to-date with all the information MIT has received. You could call the office, but personally, I’d give it another week or so before calling.

Hi, for certain reasons, I ended up sending my teacher evaluations and other documentation only today. Should it render my application invalid?

Nope, no worries. The mail is still being sorted.

Hi Mollie,
I wrote on my application that I’m asking for Financial Aid, and I saw on the admissions website that I have to complete a CSS or FASFA (don’t remember the exact name) before 15/02. Where can I cet this file ? There’s nothing on my mymit account that asks for it…

You can find all necessary information about financial aid applications at the Student Financial Services site: [MIT - Student Financial Services](<a href=“MIT Student Financial Services”>MIT Student Financial Services)

It’s totally separate from MyMIT, because the admissions office and the financial aid office work independently.

Hi
I am an international student submitting my Toefl score. I’ve send the score about in mid Dec. Will there be any place on the MyMIT indicate that they’ve received my score?? I can only see my SAT score on it.
Thanks!

Thought so, but wanted to make sure.
Thank you =)

Will MIT accept a toefl test that will be taken on 02/02?

I believe so, yes, although I don’t have access to a MyMIT account to be sure.

No, January test dates are the last that can be seen for RD.

when will the MIT regular decisions come out?

This might have already been asked but: my mentor from an internship sent in a supplemental letter of rec; it was sent just a few days ago so I don’t expect it to have been processed by any means, but will MyMIT update on the details section or anything confirming it has been received, since it’s just supplemental?

@fallpsat : It should be on 03/14/2013, which is Pi day.

hennebou - thank you

A small correction: it is frequently on Pi Day, though not always. MIT does always release decisions in mid-March, but the admissions officers can’t determine a specific release date until they’re close to being finished with decisions.

The exact date is usually announced around the first week of March – say, Mar 5-10.

No, there’s no tracking for supplemental items. You can call the admissions office to check on it, although of course you should probably wait a week or two.

thank u molliebatmit. can we wait till feb 10 to do the mid year report. the finals will only be over at the end of feb
