nah… the friend of mine arranged the interview just in early March… and I believe that is one of the only few time that interviews were arranged in China

If so, then you should ascertain whether information about your friend’s test scores is true or not.

is true… He first had idea of studying in US back in last Sep., how to do you expect him to prepare and take the tests he needed?

Although his parents forced him to apply MIT, though might give it a try or something

maybe MIT wanted to clarify his aptitude at English?..if he’s able to communicate in English or not since he didn’t get a passable score on TOEFL

I don’t care about how he got low TOEFL score (SAT isn’t available in China, so forget it); the only thing I care is why he still got a late interview while judging on his score, I’m certain that he doesn’t satisfy the language requirement of any university in the US, let alone MIT. Carrying a big language barrier will destroy him at MIT someday.

Okay, assume that he got 0 in the speaking section, I think the other three’s scores should be high, since he is Chinese (Chinese students are well-known for their great effort in studying). But 55/3 is approx. 18.3, which is quite low. Even if he got 30 in speaking, he would still get 85 totally, less than the minimum score 90 that MIT requires.

Well the truth is he barely speak English… He told me the interview lasted less than 10 minutes

I don’t really mean to speak bad about my friend here, but just wanna say interviews during Mar. don’t necessary means one is a finalist

12npm12, that’s what I thought! Even he joined MIT, he will be devastated here by all those courses.

and to be clarify, he told MIT he wanted a interview, and they gave him one… May be the ISEF first prize is attractive? I don’t know

@soundwave: What I mean to say is that the whole thing about your friend might not be true at all, so you should verify that (You know, until this point, there has been so many rumors and misinformation which have shaken so many worried people, so just make sure that you won’t start another scandal). MIT understands the language matter well enough to judge who should be given the interview.

Sure, I’ll check it…

Hi there! Just FYI there is no such thing as an “MIT Finalist.” If your EC told you that they were mistaken. Sometimes we seek out interviews because we need more information.

And our minimum of 90 on the TOEFL is just that - a minimum.
