MIT financial aid deadline...

Hi

I was checking my financial aid status today, and I found out a HORRIFYING detail...

I thought MIT required my FAFSA and CSS by Feb 15, so I sent them by that deadline.

But never did I know that they also requested the IRS tax return forms by that deadline as well...

I sent my IDOC with tax return form, but it is well past the deadline declaired by MIT.

Will it affect my finanical aid? (of course only if I am accepted...)

Will they get the information from IDOC even if I do not send them an additional copy of IRS and W2 or do I have to send them those docs again?

(I submitted my IDOC about 3 days ago...)

It won’t affect the amount of your aid package. It could affect their ability to get the package done on time – they start making packages for people who turn in all their documents by the deadline first. But they will definitely get you a financial aid package, and they will do everything in their power to get it to you as soon as possible.

No it will not - you just might not receive the package with your admission notification, but it will still be the same. Don’t worry about it!

if it is mailed only a day late, is it still possible the financial aid package will still come with the admissions decisions?

Now here is one of our annual Frequently Asked Questions that arrive a full two weeks early.

The admissions decision will arrive sometime in Mid March. For the last couple of years it has been at 1:59 in the afternoon on the 14th of March so we get a PI decision (3/14 1:59), but that is not guaranteed. Expect to hear WHEN MIT will anounce decisions somewhere around 9 March.

By contrast, financial aid decisions come out on April Fool’s Day (see for example [MIT Admissions: Deadlines](http://mitadmissions.org/topics/apply/deadlines/index.shtml)). Every year we get a crop of panicked admitted students wondering where their financial aid package is. The financial aid award will NOT arrive with the admissions decision, however it will arrive in plenty of time for you to consider it in deciding whether to accept MIT’s offer of admission.

Oh, and the answer to Jalmoreno’s question is “Yes, entirely possible. Just not guaranteed.”

Thank You Mikalye,

Good to know that the financial aide is later on. Also, glad that my slight delay may not delay my financial aid notification.
