MIT Financial Aid

I haven't received mine yet, and supposedly it was mail out last friday? Anyone got theirs yet?

Mine hasn't arrived, because they didn't receive or haven't processed my tax returns. That doesn't make any sense, though, because they have my IDOC. They were sent together!

I recieved mine, and I know of other people who received theirs. only 550 or so were sent out last friday. so who knows.

What's the deal with the IDOC? I did the whole CSS profile thing, but MIT wasn't listed as an IDOC-requesting school, although two other schools I applied to were. Not a big deal, as I've sent it in now, but I would've liked to hear ASAP.

For all of you, feel free to check in at our office by phone at (617) 253-4971 to check status.

We just sent out another 60 or so, bringing our total mailed to date to slightly under 600.

I got mine on Tuesday.

I just checked my online status, and the problem appears to be resolved. Thanks, MIT.

I got mine today - I'm in Ohio, for anyone trying to figure out when they should receive theirs.

Just one question:

When I filed my FAFSA, I estimated my parents income. I recieved an MIT package based on this estimate. Even though they received my parents W-2 and my 2004 completed tax, do you think that the package would change with a corrected FAFSA, which has a lower than estimated income?

I don't think so since they already had my parents completed tax with the accurate figures. But i thought i might ask.

Thanks.

Generally not. If we had your 2004 return when we read your case, we made the appropriate corrections. If your award letter says "We are pleased to offer you this tentative award letter" and the 2004 tax return is listing as missing on the bottom of the letter where it has missing forms, then you know we read your file without the 2004 returns.

Can we make an appeal at one of those appointments during CPW, or are appeals made only by phone?

If you meet with a counselor during CPW you can discuss the options for appeal. Again, look at the blog for more information on what makes an appeal successful.

Also, another 100 awards went out today. We are now at nearly 700 awarded.

Hm... mine said "tentative pending receipt of [the student information review form]"... That shouldn't change my finaid offer, should it?

Pebbles, not at all. If any document is missing, it says tentative, but in reality there will be no changes when the Student Information Form or Self-Help form are turned in (other than the work / loan split). Everything else does (or may) have an effect on the award.
