MIT has best admissions team of all

MIT -- you get the gold star, the Oscar, the top medal for the best admissions staff, second to none. I can say this with all honesty -- you don't know who my son is (he did not apply EA, even though MIT is his top choice school) -- so it doesn't feel like schmoozing.

We have been just so incredibly impressed with everyone in the admissions office at MIT. The blogs, the mailings, and the warm and personal letters from Marilee Jones have given us really great impressions of the school. We love how encouraging Ben Jones is here on CC. We admire molliebatmit (and you should hire her!). We like MyMIT.

You guys are all funny, warm and down-to-earth. You seem to be having fun with your job, enjoy the traveling, e-mailing and outreach. You seem like the kind of people I would want my son to hang out with.

So ---CCers --- LET'S HAVE A HUGE HOOOORAY AND

T H A N K Y O U

                TO THE MIT ADMISSIONS TEAM!!!

I'm sure all you CCers agree with me, so post your comments here!

'Nudduh

i'm not gonna lie, it's been amusing to read some blogs... and also the confusion over mollie's sn, or maybe that's just me... WHOO FOR SNOW DAYS!

I absolutely 100% endorse and agree with your comments above, Anudduh. I've been hanging around here this application season, offering help from my knowledge, although it was a FULL YEAR AGO that my son applied and was admitted EA. I don't have a kid applying this year, but still I read the blogs and offer information on CC, because I have been so impressed with the MIT Admissions team and the entire application, admission, and pre-frosh process put together by Admissions and the larger MIT team.

KUDOS for a job very well done!

omg its like a royal mess of everything here atm

And no snow day lmao

Thank you guys so much for your notes - it really means a lot to me. I'll share this with the whole staff.

:-) Ben

it's also good to note that ben/mollie/mit07 and even pebbles have replaced the mit admissions email system for me, as they seem to send the same email regardless of the question... hehe

Like Mootmom, I'm still hanging around although my son is already at MIT. I agree that MIT admissions is absolutely superb! There was no comparison with the other schools my son applied to. The blogs, the overnight program, the info sessions, CPW, the posts by students and admin people both here and on AOPS - everything about the admissions process is just first rate! We still have the Christmas and valentines cards from admissions sitting on the mantel (a year later). I still read the blogs. The attention to detail has been extraordinary. I think the most impressive moment was at CPW, when Matt took one look at my name tag and knew exactly who my son was and started conversing about him as if his was the only application he had reviewed, when I know that he must have looked at something like a thousand. Great job, admissions! (oh, and my son loves it there!)

Yes, Mit admissions is doing a great job. The excellent work you do is making for a great investment because most of us will want to go to Mit if we get admitted. No other school has such a friendly and helpful admission process. Your advice has been invaluble to many of us. So on behalf of all CC'ers Thank You!!!!

/stands up and claps

Ditto what Mootmom and Texas said, except my son is a sophomore and applied "back in the day" before all of this good stuff was in effect. What a difference!
However, I have a junior that will apply next year,so I'm keeping up with everything. Plus, my son is so busy he doesn't communicate as much as I'd like, and I can sort of keep up with what's going on at MIT and in his life by reading this board, the blogs, the MIT calendar and MyMit.

Thanks!

standing ovation

I really appreciate everyone's kind words. :o I should note that even in the event that I don't get into grad school next year, Ben et al. should most emphatically not hire me -- I'd be a terrible admissions officer because I wouldn't be able to reject people (I was actually forced to refrain from participating in my entry's in-house rush junior year -- everybody was like "you just vote for everybody that you met because you liked them all, but it doesn't help us pick people for the entry!" Oops.)

And to think that the only reason I found this forum in the first place (and therefore became a blogger) was that one of the other cheerleaders came to practice and said that there was some internet board where they were bashing the MIT cheerleaders. Kind of ironic, I'd say.

EDIT: Just re-read the cheerleader thread. Still makes me sick to my stomach.

I agree with all of you guys. I mean the blogs and the forums here at ccd has revealed a lot about the admission process to me so it is not as mysterious.

mollie... lol i still remember that, way before i had the pressure of impulsively thinking about mit... who was being thrown again? haha

lol wow I got mentioned. I only really lurk though and provide random comments. :P

Dude - MIT's admission team is the best, without a doubt. Even if they rejected me, I still will never disagree with that. They are so accessible and you always know what is going on. You feel special in the admissions process, even though you're one of 10,000.

that's right mit07... u answered a couple of my questions, far more helpful than the emails i was sent

I have to agree with that! MIT has a solid Admissions team.

I saw Bryan Nance at an Admin Info session two months ago (wow, two months ago, time flies fast), he was hilarious. :).

I enjoy reading the blogs.

Only till next year though... next year, till the team gets to see my stats...

lol, well I appreciate it ;)

Oh, anyone know when I ditch the junior member tag? :P

Make 300 posts. This is kind of nonsense stuff, this ranking of members by seniority. At the very least, the postcount should be replaced by IQ, and seniority should be assigned that way ;-)

I add my concurrence to the hugfest. The MIT admissions staff (and Ben J. especially) really make the world of elite college admissions better for everyone and are a real credit to the Institute and the academic community at large.
