MIT (High AMC12 VERY low AIME this yr)

Hi guys, i got a quick question here. tnx for help in the first place.
umm, so i scored first place in the state on the AMC12 this yr with a score 127.5/150.
but i did super poor on this yr's freakin' AIME 1. which was considered as one of the easiest AIME ever in the history due to some personal reasons, got like a 4 or sth?. (my boyfriend broke up w/ me. i was sad and sick!!!!!)
I, as a math lover, am gonna apply for MIT which is not too surprising but just wondering if it's worthy and necessary to put my poor AIME score on the MIT app. i think i shall be better off if i just put up my AMC score.

FYI, i've only participated in 2 AMCs. Last yr's AMC 10B and this yr's 12B. I qualified for AIME last yr. but no idea wht i got on the AIME 'tho. probly a 5 or 6.

I think leaving the score off is mildly weird. Here you are, top AMC scorer in the state and you don’t even take the AIME to try for USAMO?

This is what the interview is for.

so you really think i should put my 4 AIME score on my MIT app?..won’t it a lot lower my chance of getting in?
well there’s my thing, i fluctuate in math contests a lot. some times i could be the top scorer in the state, other times i only got a 10th or 20th place. That bothered me! I really don’t wht i’m supposed to do at this point.

help!!! plz…

A four on the AIME ** would never ** lower your chances.

I agree - put it down. Also, contact the AMC people and ask them what what your 10th grade score is. They know.

My poor daughter - 9th grade was her best showing on the AIME. In 10th grade she took it while just a bit sick, and in 11th grade she was awoken at 4am by a small Earthquake and never got back to sleep.

MIT actually accepts kids who do not qualify for the AIME, but your score was probably about average - which makes you average among a fairly small group of good math students! 10-20K kids take it each year.

BTW, if you are applying RD, let them know as soon as you know your AMC score.
