I am happy that they finally got in contact with all the participants though !! It was not fun being ‘ghosted’ for nearly 2 weeks after the finalists were supposed to be announced.
Does any one know whether a list of finalists will be released or only winners?
D really wanted the chance to present her research but her school is telling her it’s too late for other contests. Do you guys know whether that’s true?
@3SailAway I am not sure about the finalist list, but I have also been searching around for other competitions and cannot find any that are still open that are research based
@SlayMeLove which competitions did you find that were closed? I’d like to do a research paper for next year as well and would like to have my options open in case MIT Inspire doesn’t work out next year either. I haven’t found any other humanities research competitions besides the Concord Review yet…
@keynes1234 I would suggest researching more if you’ve only found one so far… there are countless opportunities, maybe try harder?
@keynes1234 they were mostly STEM research based. I couldn’t find anything too similar to MIT INSPIRE. If you google ‘Research Competitions for HS Students’ tons of lists come up, but most of the deadlines are in Jan-Mar.
Guys, I got an e-mail that said they’re canceling the competition
Are there any other competitions. I know a lot of us worked really hard on our projects and want to share what we learned.
Is this a joke?
yikes
I can’t believe it
Super disappointing !! I understand that the staff had difficulties this year and such, but I really wish that they had directed competitors to other ways of getting recognition for their work. Time to go find a way to publish my work and gain recognition for it … :-<
Do you guys think there might be a way to convince them to not cancel it? Maybe we can convince them to delay the finalist and winner notification date instead of completely cancelling the competition.
@sofra38 I highly doubt we could. They already postponed it so much before canceling it, so there must be some serious setback that preventing them from even getting a finalist list out. With such a huge setback, I don’t think that they’d want to postpone the date again and stress about it more.
@sofra38 I agree it’s frustrating, but I highly doubt they’ll announce finalists later. The issue is— per their website— that they don’t have a judging panel.
I guess this is a learning experience… just goes to show: don’t put your eggs all in one basket
We should at least write them and voice our opinion. We’ve put in so much time to it! I agree with Post #172, we should ask them to delay the notification, rather than cancelling it.
Please email her to voice your concerns. If she hears from many of us, she will discuss possible solutions with faculty advisors who are behind the competition in the next week or so.

@lovetohavefun Emailing the assistant dean??? Pleeeease… This is a bit too much.
If we get the school administration and/or the press involved we can pressure them into at leading holding the competition. Emailing the administration and possibly the history/social science department wouldn’t hurt.
@cchiong19 I wish you would let the colleges you will apply know what you are doing in order to get in their schools. I am sure you would be the student the top schools love to have NOT.
