I don’t think so… that piece of knowledge is kinda pointless unless they think the college is better than them and that they really really need you… in which case if they felt like they wanted you you will be accepted anyway

So i should turn down the offer as i’ll be a junior engineer as i pass out…???

When do you have to give them a response?
If it is after the MIT and other top university decisions, I think wait to be safe. No point turning them down if the worst happens and you aren’t accepted :/

Actually u got me wrong. i am just promoted to class 11 and i gave this exam for diploma courses after 10 grade. They happen to give us diploma in mechanical engineering along with grade 11 and 12 studies. So when i will be able to apply for top college (after 12 grade probably). I’d already be a junior engineer.

oh ok, when are you planning to go to MIT though if they were to accept you?

in 2015 i’ll be an junior engineer by then if i take up the course. Now should i do it or it’s just waste of time???

They might count it as a college course… the problem is if they will still consider you an applicant…

i don’t understand??? Still consider me an applicant…

If you take too many college level courses/gain too many credits you are not eligible (or at least with many top universities) for undergrad admission (to my understanding). It is like if you have been at uni you kinda count as a transfer student…

Check what MIT requires.

But with your first question: If you accept this offer, I don’t think it will get you accepted for this year (ie tomorrow/Friday)… but if you haven’t applied, it may help that you have experience for when you do apply. (I was assuming you have already applied… or applying for next year)
But check what their rules are about eligibility and if this would get in the way of that

hmmmm… I am going to apply in the year 2015 . They offer engineering at a diploma level and i’d have tons of experience dealing with machines. let me give you an example as soon as i pass 12 grade i’d be able to build a car basic one or an engine … you understand where i am going with this???

I don’t. 10char

@mi6007
Very impressive, worth asking MIT before you do accept. MIT is pretty good with replies I have found so try your luck. But as far as experiences and opportunities are concerned… I think it is worth a shot! :)

Hey everyone.

I just want to give you all a little advice when it comes to MIT/other top universities, their decision and what comes after that.

Like all of you 3 years ago I was an international student applying to MIT, and like most of you (lets be realistic, acceptance rates are abysmal) will I got rejected. This rejection hit me pretty hard for a few days, I always thought I was going to be part of MIT since I truly loved the school and what it meant, but my dream was “broken”. Do not let a rejection break you down, take it and cope a few days, but do not get depressed about it and make it feel you are not good enough for MIT or any other top tier university. What you have to do is go to any other university you got into and excel at it. Make yourself be known and get involved with research or a laboratory group early on (as early as possible, do not wait a year). Being directly involved in research will open many doors for you, many of which can later lead to MIT or other amazing schools. Last summer, during my transition between my sophomore and junior year, I decided to apply for a summer research program at MIT and was more than fortunate enough to get accepted. Spending my summer working at MIT and learning from fellow summer fellows has been one of the best experiences of my life, however, I was not blinded by it. During the summer I decided to talk to professors and researchers at MIT and worked really hard on my research project. This combination of networking and hard work ultimately is allowing me to return this summer. What I am trying to say is that do not get bummed if you do not make it in the first time, go somewhere else and make yourself be known. Through hard work and perseverance you can reach many places.

For those of you wondering, I am currently majoring in Biochemistry, so if you have any questions regarding biological research opportunities for international students feel free to ask.

Also, for those interested in summer research programs/internships when you are sophomores, here are the two from MIT that accept international students. I was part of MSRP-Bio, so if you have any questions feel free to ask.

Best of luck!

Wherever it is that you go, do not forget to give it your all and enjoy what you are doing.

Today is the day !!

Happy Pi Day :D

@hennebou, nope. He didn’t know me well enough. I, however have sent recommendations from my uncle (He’s a scientist who knows me pretty well), my Math and Physics teachers, and my Taekwondo coach.
@MRU93Raith, like I said, let’s hope for the best.
@Orimsz, that was a great comforting post. I would like to know though, where you are currently studying.
@rajoftheuk and everyone else, ‘Happy Pi Day!’ :D

I unfortunately get my letter on the 15th
5PM ET is like 2AM my time
oh well

Good luck for Pi day everyone!!

3 AM for me. Wonder if I should stay up or check in the morning? What have you guys planned?

wait… if it is 3 AM for you… then it is 1 AM for me…
I might just stay awake for it! (Or set an alarm) xP

@Himanshu
Set an alarm and spend 15 mins checking and the rest of your night unable to sleep hopefully because of excitement :P

Well I have a date Friday evening (hopefully a good way to celebrate?
) so I think I will go for the alarm… don’t want to wait all the way till when I wake up a few hours later :P

@raith Well, I’ll just stay up anyway!
It’s a Friday tomorrow, and that’s a weekend here, so no worries :P

@Himan
Oh yea, I forgot that the UAE has a different weekend
well then stay up and I’ll see you on here around decision time! You going to post your stats in the decision thread?
