MIT International Interviews: India

Hey guys!
I am an applicant to MIT and submitted my application to MIT on January 1, 2016. I wanted to know about the interviews which are selective here in India. So on the dashboard and the checklist we saw a tick against the Interview bullet implying because it is initially waived for some reason. Now after a month of this, some of my friends don’t have the ticks anymore and the waiver message in the details section has vanished. All I got to know was that they are going to receive interviews sometime later, and this disappearance of the tick is an indication. I still have it there. I am also an aid applicant and so I sent in my CSS on Feb 1 which reached MIT on 3rd. THe portal says it is important to send in all documents for the application to be reviewed so I guess that maybe a reason I haven’t got an interview as yet, because being selective the application should be complete before MIT can roll out an interview. Are there anymore interviews rolled out? Till when do the students keep on receiving notifications? How many people in India get an interview? Does “no interview” imply rejection? Is the disappearance of the tick a purposed move or just a bug?

Thank You so much for your help!

Considering older posts I think only few dozen people get interviews in India. I, myself, still haven’t got it. Someone mentioned that applicants are contacted latest by 22nd Feb.

No interview probably means rejection. It’s the sad truth. Maybe they will change policies this year :slight_smile:

As far as I know, not having an interview has no impact on your application as there are simply just not enough alumni interviewers for all the students that apply, especially in a densely populated area with a high number of applicants like India. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m fairly confident about this. So please don’t let this worry you. If you and MIT are a good fit and they believe you can handle the work, you will get in. And if you don’t get in, you’ll find a school that suits you best. Now get out there and do what you enjoy doing and stop worrying about things that are, quite frankly, out of your control.

@NaijaBoy, the interviews MIT offers in India are selective. They do determine to a great extent, the chances of your acceptance. This is strongly backed by statistics which translate to the fact, that not getting an interview means >90% ~92-93% rejection.

@thingamajig102 How many people you know have got the tick gone and have received their interview details? I think that more clearly, the disappearance of the tick implies an interview a bit later. Please respond as soon as possible. I am getting really uneasy because of this.

@Denouement I only know one guy who got his interview way back in December. But that’s probably because he was a US citizen.

As for me and my friends, no one has yet received an interview and still have the ticks.

We don’t really have an option but to wait and see what happens.

@Denoument

10-15 students are selected for MIT interview every year out of which nearly 4-5 are chosen

I have my tick missing as well. It vanished on Feb 3. I am an International Olympiad medalist so I was expecting to get an interview.

No interview does not mean rejection at all. MIT accepts around 5-6 students. 4 might come through interview. Odds are super tough for people who didn’t receive an interview. I will not sugar coat it but the chances are bleak. But not completely 0.

I know a guy who along with a few friends has their interview tick missing. How many of your friends have their interview tick missing?

@OmnipotentSaber

I’m from China and I also got my interview. I guess the situation in China would be similar to that in India. But I don’t know whether international students admitted through EA would affect the chance to get in. I already know three students who were admitted to MIT through EA in China, and if MIT still admits 5-6 totally, would fewer students be chosen during RD?

Do you know around how many people apply from China each year?

@OmnipotentSaber
I am an international medallist too! Sadly, though I didn’t get the interview? How was yours?
I just hope what you said comes true… I mean I really hope I get MIT because it is the best fit for me as far as I have been able to figure out; the learning style is exactly what I wanted with absolutely no wayward traits. I have a been a part of multiple olympiads ( 2 OCSCs) and I qualified for INO this year, so yeah I did expect quite something. Anyways, I know I would get in somewhere and would be happier so… ;_;
Yet there was one thing that pulled me down…
Anyways congrats! You might just get in!

@wasd680
I guess yes! They have a fixed number of admits so yeah in totality about 6-7 admits from India… And the situation is very similar to China or say otherwise! In fact they have very different policies for India, China, South Korea, etc.
