Hi,
I just had my interview for MIT and it got me thinking how many people feel that they have bombed the interview(because I do)?
What questions do they ask?? I’m having mine this week.
Wolowizard, why do you think you bombed the interview?
There are no set questions that an EC will ask.
One of the primary objectives of the interview is to see what kind of person you are. Most of the interviews I do very a lot in what we talk about.
lots of people think this, mostly because the interview functions as a salient screen upon which they can project their own anxieties about the process. it’s like one of the few things nominally in their control and therefore one of the few things they are concerned about screwing up.
but the vast majority of our ECs are chill and understand/accept the inevitable awkwardness. i very, very rarely read interviews by people who truly “bombed” the interview, way less than the times I read someone being sure they themselves bombed the interview!
D had hers yesterday and felt really good about it. She enjoyed the conversation which lasted an hour. Seemed like the objective was to learn about her beyond the classes and athletics/activities. Important to realize that the EC knows nothing about you coming into the interview.
Are non face to face interviews looked at as not as valuable.
Skype may be used for interviews, in regions where there are no ECs located that year, (that changes year to year as alumni may move to a region and stick with EC volunteer work ). The Skype interviews are treated the same as in person interviews, the forms and reports are the same for either type of interview.
