I have friends who have been interviewed for 1-3 hours for their MIT EC interview. Is the whole time just you talking about your activities? Do you ever spend any time at all talking about stuff aside from activities, or is the whole hour and a half interview just a review of your activities?

It’s more of a conversation than an interview. During my “interview”, we talked everything from exploding rockets, to electronics, to UEFA Champions League (Euro soccer league). Mostly, you’ll probably be asked one or two general questions like “what do you like to do”, and then have a conversation.

ok thank you! Is it fine if we have not submitted the application yet? I have heard something about biographical information needing to get to them, but I have a myMIT account and my rec letters have already gotten in, so I assume that they have me on record already?

It depends on the region. In some parts of the world (I believe India is one of them), there are so many candidates that the students are asked to submit part 1 of the application prior to the interview. It just shows that the student is serious. Every year quite a few interviews are carried out for students who do not ever apply. In most of the world, you can have your interview regardless of how much of your application is currently in.

Mine was more like a casual conversation. In the beginning it was all about MIT. My interviewer asked me to bring a list of activities, accomplishments, etc. We went through that. When he saw that I played baseball we talked about that for a while.

Yea, it varies pretty significantly from person to person; I chatted with my interviewer about my interests, career goals, general college topics… then we played pingpong for about a half hour… haha
