MIT Interview

I’m an Early Action applicant and was wondering if I am not contacted about an interview is that a bad sign? Does that mean they don’t really like my app so they already decided to not accept me? When is the latest we can be contacted about an interview? I’m not sure if it might be because the evaluations have not loaded onto my application as being in (even though on the MyMIT portal it says they were submitted) and they might not consider my app as complete? I contacted them about the evaluations and they said it was okay as long as the MyMIT portal says that it was submitted before the deadline.

Are you in an area which may not have a lot of MIT alum? I believe the interview is generated once your submitted the application as it came rather quickly so I doubt if anyone even have a chance to eyeball the application.

I am in chicago. I submitted my application the 31st

I’m in the same boat, I submitted my application on the 31st and live in NYC, but still don’t have an interview date.

Apparently neither of my friends who applied to MIT have their interviews yet. I think they’ll probably give it on a later date (not certain though)

My friend that lives in D.C. Got one the next day and I’m super worried that they didn’t like my app enough to bother with an interview (even tho that doesn’t make much sense cause they have thousands of apps)

Give it a few more days. My daughter submitted her application last Sunday and was contacted to set up her interview on Thursday. That was 4 business days after submission.

Final MIT interview assingments, i.e. students being assigned to interviewers, (and trust me, a lot of shuffling takes place), should be completed after tomorrow (Nov. 5). If you havent heard from your interviewer yet, do not worry. Also, it’s a new procedure this year where the interviewer makes first contact as opposed to the other way around. I’m sure more than a few interviewers are getting used to the change. Finally, you need to have completed parts 1 and 2 of the application before they contact you. I interview for MIT and I also coordinate interviewers in my region, so rest assured lots of moving parts are involved, especially all kinds of schedule/travel changes for the interviewers. Hope that helps.

@espressomac Thanks, that’s reassuring to hear

Barring limitations due to location (i.e. no interviewer in your area) do ALL applicants receive an invite to interview? Or is there some vetting/filtering that occurs prior to the interview invite?

MIT will do it’s best to set up a Skype interview if there are limitations due to location. NOT having an interview really is an exception. No vetting occurs before the interview—other than your having completed parts 1 and 2.

Thank you! Yes I received an interview

Best of luck @bbq5ue !

I was a little too on top of my applicants and within 12 hours that I received notification that they completed both Parts 1+2, I emailed the applicant.

Completed EA interviews to date: 1

My son was contacted for his interview about 3 weeks after he submitted his application. So, just be patient. You’ll hear from them soon.

I submitted on October 31st and I haven’t been contacted yet; however, others from my school submitted around October 29th and were contacted last week. Should I be concerned that I might not get an interview?

Same situation here, everything submitted and confirmed on October 28, but no interview information yet.

My son and one of his friends haven’t received anything yet, but another friend in the same school did.

Very often students from the same school are assigned to different interviewers. Also, interviewers have students from several schools. This year I’ll be interviewing applicants from at least four schools. However, don’t hesitate to ask tell the admissions office that you have not been contacted by your interviewer. All I can say is that the new approach this year has compressed the interview period and there seems to be an important increase in the number of EA applicants.

Is there a deadline for when an interview must be scheduled for EA?

I do interviews for MIT and had 3 students with parts of their applications done prior to the deadline. So I was expecting to do just those 3. On the deadline, there were any additional 3 applications. A little tough to get all these interviews done before the November 18 deadline I have to submit the interview reports. I am not a real fan of this new system. The time span for interviews is too short.

If you haven’t heard by now, contact MIT.
