@espressomac mac : @Tamarix I’m guessing every EC is different. I’ve had everything from an hour to 2.5 hours (yes, we did) but most last about 90 minutes.
Daughter’s interview lasted for hardly 25 minutes. The interview also seems to have focussed much more on her school rather than herself And she also feels that the interview prior to her interview lasted for almost 90 minutes. Oh well! Let us see how it goes.
They have informed us that over 7,500 EA interviews were done this year, a number similar to last year. They received a lot of feedback regarding the new interview process, some good, some bad. So they know things can be improved. And they will improve. In the meantime, good luck to all the EA applicants.
My kid also hasn’t heard about an interview and emailed to find out if perhaps he had been contacted but his spam folder ate it (he just found a bunch of interesting email in there, but anything over 30 days is already permanently gone). He got a reply saying that there is no way to find out if he was assigned an EC (and somehow missed the contact) or whether there was instead no EC available or no EC available yet. He of course wants an interview, and certainly doesn’t want to indicate in any way that he is declining one, but isn’t sure what else to do. Good luck everyone!
Being an EC I can check the status of an application. It is just what has ben submitted and not the actual submittal. In that same status check I can input whether I’ve tried to contact a potential interviewee and not been able to. Can you check the same type of info from the student side. It could tell you if someone tried to contact your son, momofcs_kid.
FYI, although I can input that info, I rarely do. Most of the time I just enter a code when I’ve completed my report.
Do MiT EC’s read or have access to applications/essays? I don’t want to gloss over important parts of my life but I’d also hate to make my interviewer sit through redundant explanations and not add to what admissions gets to know about me…
After submitting my application about 3 weeks ago, I still haven’t gotten any sort of contact from an EC despite all the other applicants from my school receiving an interview and despite multiple emails to interview@mit.edu. Should I just accept that I’m not going to receive any contact and if so, how do I ensure that it’s waived on the app?
ECs do not have access to any part of a student’s application other than the status codes that say what has been submitted.
The purpose of the interview is to find out what kind of person is the applicant. The interview is NOT the place to discuss grades, your essays, your test scores. The interview is a conversation and it can take many directions.
@codelover1 Its still possible you will be contacted. I just got a student transferred to me, and got the interview set up. Also if you don’t get contacted, MIT will be aware of that, as cases where students turn down interviews are noted by the EC. You will have a blank for the interview form, and thus they will know you were not contacted, and by your letting them know, that should trigger a Skype interview in a few weeks. Don’t give up on it yet. MIT has a number of Skype interviewers for areas where coverage is less than the need.
@mom of cs kid same answer. And yes, thats exactly what ECs get , what you list above, and we can see when part 1, part 2,test scores and recommendations are submitted, but not access them. Later we can see who got admitted in this same database, a day or two after candidates find out.
