MIT Interviews

@peepingtom a phone over a Skype seriously? I’d do anything not to get a phone.
What are your stats like if you dont mind?

yeah peepingtom, a skype interview would definitely be better! Also, was this interview optional @rishab?

@QuarkAssasin Yes the email clearly stated that this is an Optional Interview.

Okay here we go,
current Cambridge student (total of 9 A levels), scored in higher 90s in ICSE 10th. SAT 2340 and ACT 35 composite (without writing), not taken SAT IIs. Will be participating in National Junior Rowing and there’s a high probability of representing India in the next South Asian Olympics Rowing. FIDE rated Chess player, will be titled International master (IM) next year and Grand master (GM) subsequent year. So on … so forth. Will be posting a “chance me” thread soon. You’re welcome to comment. I’m currently in the process of filling a “brag sheet” and figuring things out.

@peepingtom Sounds amazingly good. What do you mean by Cambridge student exactly? You are at Cambridge university applying for a transfer?

Hey peepingtom by the National Junior Rowing do you mean the upcoming one in Kolkata?
@rishab: Oh alright. Your friend’s interview was good as well I hope. And also the one who is yet to interview! :D

also @peepingtom SAT 2 is a required component for Harvard. <a href=“First-Year Applicants | Harvard”>https://college.harvard.edu/admissions/application-requirements</a>
Hope it doesnt hurt your chances.

I’m planning to take the SAT IIs in June, will also take SAT and ACT in May and try for perfect scores. By Cambridge student I meant, University Of Cambridge International Examinations International Advanced Levels student. Too long right? That’s why I cut it short. It is also known as CIE Intl A Levels.

Oh wait. Peepingtom, you haven’t applied yet? And I’m taking the Edexcel A levels. A2 exams this June!

@peepingtom I thought you applied this year. Looks like you have a really strong application. Also, you seem more on the sporty side (exactly like me), but I do suggest having some eccentric academic achievements (Apart from grades)- research, olympiads or some interesting projects etc.

Apart from Harvard look at the other great schools Stanford, MIT, Jerome Fisher(M&T) At Penn, Columbia, Berkeley, CMU etc.!

Hope you can into your dream school.

Thanks, I’m still college hunting, haven’t even made a list yet. I’m open to all sorts of Colleges, but I’ve heard that Harvard has the best rowing facility (boathouses, athletes winning Olympics etc.), Rowing is really important for me, I absolutely love it! Currently, I’ve filled out recruitment forms of various schools of which Colgate has shown much interest and Princeton has shown least, Harvard and Vassar are okay okay (neither very enthusiastic nor downright rejecting).
and the schools you mentioned, Stanford’s really selective (lower than 5%), not to mention need sensitive. I’m looking at MIT and Penn though. Columbia and Berkeley are big no no, Columbia’s in NYC and Berkeley is public with no aid for intls. It appears that I’ll have to go to a >top 50 if I want to study in the states.

I can help you since I have been through the recruitment process already. I have already got recruited at CMU SCS and got a likely from M&T at Wharton and Penn Engineering. Also, I know a rower from Harvard (what a coincidence). So you could probably PM me and I could help you out.

@rishab : where else have you applied?

I have applied to over 15 colleges, but since I have already got M&T, only waiting for the other top 4-5 (If I get into any one of those it’s going to be a really really hard decision!)

Ha ha ha @QuarkAssassin
I think the one in Kolkata is a master Rowing (we kids are not even allowed), Juniors are at Uttarakhand at Rurkee or rorke or something like that.

@rishab: Woah that’s amazing! I hope I get in somewhere too!
@peepingtom: I see. A few of my friends were thinking of taking part in the national school regatta in Kolkata.

@QuarkAssassin you definitely will, everyone does get atleast 1 really good college :)

BTW, Where did you apply to? Got acceptances from anywhere?

I applied to HYPMS, Penn, Dartmouth, Cornell, Duke, Northwestern, Amherst, Williams, WUSTL, Yale-NUS. I applied for aid though :/

Haven’t gotten in anywhere yet.

Don’t Worry, time is not yet ripe, just hope that you don’t receive an email, they hand out rejection through emails, but acceptances through standard mail!
