<p>Just a reminder that MIT has well-regarded social science departments as well. MIT political science professor and author Richard Samuels is quoted in the NY Times article below:</p>
<p>I agree. MIT has top-tier social science departments, which are at the caliber of many at HYPS. A lot of students at MIT end up majoring in these areas.</p>
<p>Some of the humanities departments are also decent, although in the intro courses you sometimes have to overcome a lot of bored, "back of the room" science students who are taking them as "requirements." You also won't have very many fellow majors, which can be a downer. On the other hand, there is also genuine interest there, not only because humanities professors at MIT are eager to find students who are into their subject matter, but also because students at MIT are generally very intelligent, almost always majoring in a science/engineering area and therefore don't feel like they have anything to "prove" by studying Shakespeare, etc. Just in my experience there, anyways.</p>
