OK, I might be exaggerating. But its hard to find contact information on its website such as admissions office phone number or email address to ask simple questions.

Although the blogs are great, it seems like MIT doesn't want prospective students to ask questions outside of a few, scarce opportunities. Is that right?

Whoops! I guess I was looking for the email address/admissions reps and didn’t see the phone number. It was for something that couldn’t be answered just off the website. Sorry!

^Looking at your chance thread, I would be more concerned about taking the SAT II in Math than trying to email admission reps about some obscure question.

@iceui2 - Excuse me? I’m sorry if this thread comes off as frustrated, but that question will help my application. Missing the phone number for the admissions office was an unfortunate and careless oversight on my part.
I am, interestingly enough, capable of both emailing people, hardly a time consuming activity, and studying for exams. My SAT math score, though regrettably low, does not reflect my performance in math classes. My chance thread? Yes, I know my scores are low, but I have one chance for undergrad, so I might as well try MIT and hope for the very, very best. I’ve taken the SAT II Math - the results are coming tomorrow and I’m worried enough about that.
Please let me know if there is anything else about my application you would like to address or question.

Is there a way I can ask a moderator to remove or delete this thread?

But for future reference, don’t jump to conclusions so quickly. IMO, MIT admission officers are the most accessible, especially on CollegeConfidential. Try finding HYPS admission officers here.

@ the OP: I don’t think anyone is faulting you for making an easy mistake with the admissions website. But making a public post on College Confidential to rant against MIT’s contactabilty (totally a word…) is another story… Especially because MIT is probably the most accessible of all the US top universities, between MITChris’ (and molliebat’s) presence here to their wonderful blog posts.

I emailed the general concerns email, admissions@mit.edu, asking for a poster and a pen last year. They sent a cordial response and I got a handwritten packet with a poster, pen, and a nice little viewbook inside within days. Now, tell me that isn’t the best admissions office out there and I’ll show you a liar.
