MIT [list price] vs LSU [full ride] for Physics

(Assuming OP’s narration is truthful)…

Then the parents should not have agreed to pay for MIT. If they had never said they’d do it, this would be a different conversation.

Unless you’re OP’s older sister, right? Bc she’s getting more than she “needs” going to Brown and then Univ of Penn for law school.

Your statement should apply to both daughters, don’t you think?

They didn’t take back their word. Read OP.

People make mistakes all the time. Parents, like anyone else, are entitled to change their mind, especially if there may have been a change in circumstances. Instead they are being pilloried on here by alleged adults who don’t have the full story.

Not sure we know that is 100% true. It’s all speculation. All I’m saying is can’t have it both ways. She’s either a child dependent on parents, living with parents, dealing with the ramification of everyone bashing their parents or she is an independent adult. It doesn’t sound like it’s the later.

Honestly, this thread should be shut down.

Agree 100%

And we’re missing that the OP didn’t say parents weren’t paying, they are just nervous that they won’t. But regardless, parent bashing is not serving the high schooler in any positive way.

Agree.

This may be a fun debate if it was hypothetical. It may be fake but we don’t know that. I say someone start a new thread with a hypothetical situation and we can go to town debating on parenting styles! I’d love to add my 2 cents but won’t entertain that about a (potentially) real child’s situation.

It definitely feels like the thread has gone off the rails and run it’s course until OP comes back if she comes back.

OP did say this in a later post:

not a certainty, but they said it’s unlikely they would be willing to fork over money for mit now.
