MIT M.I.T.E.S. vs Stanford Summer Institutes

I applied to both and am wondering if I am accepted to both which one is better to go to. I am Hispanic and I think I have a good chance at MIT MITES and Stanford summer institutes. They are both amazing programs and am having trouble deciding which one to go to if I get accepted to both.

Not to pop your bubble, but MITES has a 4% admissions rate; 8% if you count E2 (the 1-week program at MIT.) Chances are decent that even if you are very well qualified and of the right ethnicity and income bracket that you still may not get in because of the tiny number of students admitted, so don’t get too excited. You may not even have to worry about choosing one :P

I have not heard much about the Stanford programs but based on the MITES and Stanford websites, MITES is the way to go if you do get accepted into both. First, MITES is totally free, which is pretty awesome, and it also seems to be a far more rigorous program and you’ll probably get more out of it academically (but if you don’t feel like seriously working your butt off, then go for Stanford.) The Stanford program seems to just be trying to get money out of people and there seems to be a little too much “free time” allotted in the schedule for the Stanford program to be very work-intensive.

tl;dr if you want to do some serious learning, go to MITES. If you want to do some learning while also socializing and relaxing, go to Stanford.

Is mites more competitive?

Hopefully I get accepted into MIT MITES then. I should be hearing from them anytime soon. I applied for Questbridge and if I get the College prep scholarship, money for attending Stanford will not be that big of an issue.

The MITES decisions will probably be out around April 10-12ish, or at least that’s what the MITES alumni in the MITES thread said.

@Mlolo98 MITES is probably way more competitive admissions-wise, yes.

Is SIMR as competitive? @apdenoatis

I am not so sure but I know you need to live with an adult close to Stanford because housing is not provided.

@Mlolo98 I don’t know, sorry.

MITES for infinite times.
